Colorado State’s Shepard Named Mountain West Swimmer of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – For the second consecutive week a Colorado State athlete has been honored by the Mountain West. On Wednesday, sophomore Jessica Shepard was named the Mountain West Women’s Swimmer of the Week.

The award is Shepard’s second honor, also receiving accolades on Nov. 13. As a program, CSU has earned four weekly honors this season – two from Shepard and two from sophomore diver Ariana Milone – the most since the 2002-03 season.

Shepard helped CSU to a 185-113 victory over New Mexico on Saturday, winning the 100 Backstroke (56.94) and 200 IM (2:10.04). On the day, the sophomore from Dripping Springs, Texas, also took second in the 200 Backstroke (2:05.97) and led off the 200 Medley Relay team, which finished second (1:45.39). In total, Shepard contributed 26 points in the team’s victory.

The Rams have won four of their past five dual meets, and are off to their best start since 2009-10. CSU will face Border War rival Wyoming Saturday in Laramie.

The above post is a press-release submitted by the Mountain West Conference.
