Collegiate Water Polo Association Releases 2015 Men’s Week 9 Polls

The University of California-Los Angeles, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges and Brown University retain the No. 1 positions as the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the 2015 Men’s Varsity Week 9/November 4 National Top 20, Division III Top 10 and Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Top 10 Polls.

The undisputed top team in the land through the first nine weeks of competition during the 2015 Men’s Varsity season, the Bruins are once again a unanimous top selection.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, which captured the Division III title back at the Gary Troyer Memorial Tournament via a 16-14 victory over then No. 1 Whittier College, remains at No. 1 in the Division III rankings.

In the CWPA Top 10 league poll, the Bears of Brown University withstand another try by Harvard University and Princeton University to take over the top position on the East Coast.

Voted on by a panel of coaches from the CWPA, Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), MPSF, Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the polls will be compiled and released on Wednesday during each week of the season through the week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.

2015 Men’s Varsity National Top 20 (Week 9/November 4)

The 2014 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Champion Bruins of the University of California-Los Angelesmaintain the No. 1 position in the 2015 Week 8/October 28 National Top 20 Poll .

 

Similar to the Week 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 Polls, the Bruins (100 points) are once again a consensus top pick after tallying 99 points in the Week 2 balloting.

For the third week in a row, change comes to the Top 10 as theUniversity of California (91 points) moves up from No. 4 to tie with the University of the Pacific (91 points) at No. 2. The change drops the University of Southern California (87 points) back to No. 4, while Stanford University (81 points), the University of California-Santa Barbara (75 points), theUniversity of California-Irvine (70 points), Long Beach State University (65 points) andPepperdine University (60 points) hold on inside the Top 10 for another week.

The University of California-Davis (53 points) breaks out of a tie with Princeton University (49 points) to take sole possession of the No. 10 position this week, while the Tigers of Princeton fall back one slot to No. 11. Brown University (42 points) and Harvard University (42 points) remain tied at No. 12, while Loyola Marymount University (33 points) and Bucknell University (29 points) trade the No. 14 and 15 slots.

The University of California-San Diego (25 points), Santa Clara University (20 points), the United States Air Force Academy (19 points), California Baptist University (7 points) and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (6 points) complete the Top 20.

2015 Men’s Varsity Division III Top 10 (Week 9/November 4)

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (98 points) maintains top billing at No. 1 in the Week 9/November 4 National Division III Top 10 Poll.

Whittier College (95 points) follows to remain at No. 2 for another week, while Johns Hopkins University (83 points) climbs one position to No. 3.  The University of Redlands (82 points) and Chapman University(82 points) are now tied at No. 4, while Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (78 points) assumes the No. 6 position.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (73 points) and California Lutheran University (68 points) exchange the No. 7 and 8 spots, while the University of La Verne (60 points) andWashington & Jefferson College (34 points) complete the Division III rankings.

Occidental College (11 points) and Connecticut College (11 points) also received votes.

2015 Men’s Varsity CWPA Top 10 (Week 9/November 4)

Following two weeks of consistent change, defending league champion Brown University hangs on as the top team on the East Coast by the slimmest of margins according to the Week 9/November 4 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Top 10 Poll.

The Bears (98 points) remain on top of the league standings by one point compared to Harvard University (94 points), while Princeton University (89 points) falls back in remaining at No. 3.

Bucknell University (85 points) and CWPA Division III ChampionJohns Hopkins University (81 points) stay at No. 4 and 5, respectively, with the United States Naval Academy (74 points) moving up one spot to No. 6.

St. Francis College Brooklyn (67 points) drops back to No. 7, with Fordham University (65 points), the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (63 points) and previously unranked Mercyhurst University (24 points) completing the Top 10.
