CLAREMONT, Calif. – Senior Jacque Desmond was named the SCIAC Diver of the Week for her role in helping the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s swimming and diving team to a narrow 149-141 dual win over Occidental on Saturday at Axelrood Pool, in a tri-meet with both Occidental and Caltech.
Desmond opened up the meet with a first-place finish in the one-meter dive and a second-place finish in the three-meter (behind sophomore teammate Emily Bhatt) to give the Athenas a healthy lead heading into the swimming portion of the competition. She scored an impressive 267.75 in the one-meter to win by 65 points over Krystin Brown of Caltech, a personal improvement of 14 points over the previous week against Chapman. She then finished a close second to Bhatt in the three-meter with 207.25 points.
Her two high finishes ended up proving to be vital to the final results, as CMS ended up edging Occidental just 149-141 in the final team scores. The meet came down to the final relay, which the Athenas won to overtake the Tigers and remain perfect in SCIAC dual competition at 3-0.
CMS will be back in action when it hosts Pomona-Pitzer in a two-day meet after Thanksgiving, beginning the competition on Friday, November 30 at Axelrood Pool and then finishing it on Saturday, December 1.
