Canadian Swimmers Have a Strong Day Three Finals

2025 Men’s NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships

We are almost done with Day 3 finals of the men’s NCAA Championships, and Canadian swimmers made a statement at the beginning of the meet, going 1-2 in the 100 fly, and finishing 2nd in the 400 IM.

Men’s 100 Butterfly – Finals

Josh Liendo and Ilya Kharun, both Canadian citizens, went 1-2 in the 100 fly final and both led at certain points. Kharun had a stronger first 50, but Liendo was excellent on the final 50, splitting 22.93 to Kharun’s 23.32 to finish 1st in 43.06. This time was exactly .01 faster than he went last year and becomes the new 2nd fastest time in history.

Kharun, who is one of the favorites for the 200 fly later in the meet, was out fast in 20.11, finishing 2nd in 43.43. This time moves him up to the 7th fastest swim all-time in the event. He is also now the 4th best performer in history, behind Liendo, Youssef Ramadan, and Caeleb Dressel.

Tristan Jankovics, another Canadian, finished 2nd in the 400 IM. He actually briefly led the race after the breaststroke leg, but he wasn’t able to keep up with the speed from Maurer at the end.

He still went a new best time, swimming 3:34.98 to set a new Big Ten record, breaking his own mark of 3:35.51 from last months Big Ten Championships.
