The final day of the 2024 Futures Championships in Huntsville is in the books. The last finals session of the meet kicked off with a bang, seeing Swim Atlanta 18-year-old Katie Christopherson rip a 2:13.83 to win the women’s 200 IM. Christopherson, who will be beginning her collegiate career at Virginia in just a few weeks, clipped her previous best of 2:14.17, which she had set in April of this year. She swam a great race all around, splitting 29.39 on fly, 33.77 on back, 38.78 on breast, and 31.89 on free.
In the men’s 200 IM, Gwinnett Aquatics 16-year-old Baylor Stanton had a fantastic performance of his own. Stanton won the race in 2:02.94. That time comes in just off his personal best of 2:01.14, which he swam at the US Olympic Trials last month.
Windermere Lakers 15-year-old Rylee Erisman, who has been phenomenal all weekend in Huntsville, closed it out on a very high note. Erisman won the women’s 50 free decisively with a 25.01. She was a bit off the 24.66 she swam at the Olympic Trials last month, but still won the race by nearly a second.
Windermere Lakers’ Ryan Erisman, 17, put on a show in the men’s 800 free. The Cal recruit swam an 8:01.65, taking down his previous best of 8:04.82 in the event. That swim makes Erisman the 21st-fastest American in the event this year. He swam a great race, splitting 4:01.19 on the first 400m, then coming home in 4:00.44.
Florida Atlantic University’s Jacob Rubin swam a 23.30 to win the men’s 50 free. It was a solid swim out of Rubin, who holds a career best of 22.86 in the event, which he swam in May of this year.
Carmel Swim Club 14-year-old Ellie Clarke won the women’s 200 back in a 2:12.06. She was just a touch off her personal best of 2:11.93, which she swam in March of this year. Aiken-Augusta Swim League 13-year-old Heba Fouitah had a huge swim of her own. The youngster came in 2nd with a 2:16.62, marking a big new career best.
The women’s 1500 free saw Sarasota Sharks’ Michaela Mattes, who also competes for Florida collegiately, win in a time of 16:41.52. Mattes holds a career best of 16:23.44, which she swam at the International Team Trials back in 2022. Meanwhile, Carmel Swim Club’s Alexandra Ward, 17, had a huge swim for 2nd, clocking a 16:50.04. Ward took 16.52 seconds off her performance.
In the men’s 200 back, Area Tallahassee Aquatic Club 17-year-old Ethan Ekk swam a 2:01.04 to win the race. Ekk posted his career best of 1:58.92 at the Canadian Trials in May.
