A member of the high school class of 2022, Ashley Scott of Henderson, Nevada has announced that she will be joining the swim team at California Baptist University this fall. Scott currently trains with the Sandpipers of Nevada, specializing in distance events. She is also accomplished in open water competitions, having finished in the top-5 of both the 5k and 7.5k at the Las Vegas Open Water Champions Cup last fall.
“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study this fall at California Baptist University! I fell in love with the school and team almost immediately, and I cannot wait to see what these next few years have in store. I’d like to thank God, my family, teammates, and coaches for supporting me during these past 10 years. I truly could not have reached where I am today without their unending love and guidance. Thank you to Rick Rowland, Lisa Siregar and the rest of the coaches and team for welcoming me to the Lancer family with open arms. LANCE UP!!”
Last fall, Scott hit lifetime bests in both the 500 and 1000 freestyles while competing at a meet hosted by her club team. There, she swam to altitude adjusted times of 5:11.26 and 10:54.82, respectively. She also added new personal bests in the 200 back (2:16.67), 200 fly (2:20.08), and 200 IM (2:14.11).
Scott has already hit a pair of lifetime bests in her off events this season, competing at a long course time trial meet at the beginning of April. There, she dropped time in both the 50 free (29.81) and 100 free (1:04.58).

California Baptist is at the tail end of a transition to NCAA Division I, having competed as a Division II school as recently as 2018 and as an NAIA school up until 2013. The Lancers finished 5th out of 8 teams at the 2022 WAC Swimming and Diving Championships.
Last season, the Lancers were led by a freshman in the distance events, with first year Giulia Decataldo finishing in the top-8 of both the 500 and 1650 at the WAC Championships. She finished on the podium of both events, taking 3rd in the 500 (4:52.78) and 2nd in the 1650 (16:46.19). The entire program’s roster was young last season, with 10 members of the team listed as freshman on the school’s roster.
California Baptist wrapped up it’s 2022 season competing at the CSCAA National Invitational, finishing 17th overall as a team. The team was led at that meet by graduate student Patricia Van Law, who took 3rd in the 400 IM. Decataldo added a pair of top-10 finishes while senior Rebeca Oviedo and sophomore Lydia Bartlett added top-16 finishes in the distance events.
Scott will join Sarah Aman, Sam McConnell, and Naya Koc as members of Cal Baptist’s class of 2027.
