Bulldogs fall to BU on Saturday in Boston

Boston University claimed a dual meet win over Bryant this weekend, claiming the meet with a final score of 219-95 on the women’s side and 209-102 on the men’s side.

Bryant:

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Senior Julia Messina (Canandaigua, N.Y.) took home a first-place finish in the 100 breast but the Bryant University women’s swimming and diving team was defeated by Boston University, 219-95, on Saturday afternoon in Boston.

Messina was the only Bulldog to take home a victory on Saturday, winning the 100 breast with a time of 1:07.89.

Several others posted strong performances on Saturday, led by Nicole Salzano (Elmwood Park, N.J.). Salzano finished second in the 100 and 200 back events, posting times of 59.57 and 2:05.76, respectively. Erin Daly (Reading, Mass.) also performed well, finishing second in the 1000 free (10:25.54), third in the 500 free (5:07.72) and fourth in the 200 free (1:56.00).

Carissa Stemen (Naples, Fla.) and Ann Burdick (Glenmont, N.Y.) were Bryant’s top two divers on the afternoon. Stemen finished fourth in the 1 meter with a total of 224.55 points.  Burdick finished fourth in the 3 meter with a score of 221.10.

The Black and Gold return to the pool Saturday, Jan. 30 when they host Holy Cross.

Boston:

BOSTON – The Boston University swimming and diving team swept Bryant in the final home meet of the season, as the women’s team defeated the Bulldogs 219-95 while the men’s team finished with a score of 209-102.

Both the men’s and women’s teams won 14 of the 15 races the Terriers competed in, with Bryant winning only the men’s 100 backstroke and women’s 100 breaststroke.

Julimar Avila won all three races she competed in, winning the 100 free, 200 butterfly and helping the 200 medley relay team finish in first place. Garrett Chinhad three individual wins on the day, sweeping the butterfly events and winning the 200 freestyle.

In the diving pool, Kyra Tatlow swept the women’s events while David Thiede won both events on the men’s side.

Other first place finishers for the women’s team include Grace Anderson (1000 free), Mika Spencer (100 IM), Erin Nabney (200 Free), Allison Winter (100 back), Isabella Olivares (50 free), Nikki Bookwalter (200 back), Danielle Yoon (200 breast and 100 fly) and Steph Nasson (500 free).

For the men, Trevor Winans won both the 1000 and 100 free while Mun Hon Lee (100 IM), Quinn Smith (50 free), Michael Choate (200 back), Daniel Andronov (200 breast) and Alex Ewart (500 free) all finished in first place.
