BOSTON – The Bucknell women’s swimming & diving team topped Boston University, 163-137, on Saturday at the Competition Pool.

The Bison (2-0, 2-0 PL) stretched their winning streak over the Terriers (0-1, 0-1 PL) to four meets behind nine individual victories and one relay win.

Alexis FariaMaddie Hartigan and Sabrina Vumbacco each touched the wall first in two races. First year Liz Dokina also registered her first collegiate victory.

Hartigan anchored the first-place 400 freestyle relay team. She was coming off a strong performance at Holy Cross, where she set a pool record in the 100 butterfly and took first in the 1,000 freestyle. Faria and Vumbacco also won one race apiece against the Crusaders.

Bucknell went 1-2-3 in the 500 freestyle and 200 IM.

The Bison next host Binghamton on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 1 p.m. for their home opener.

BOSTON – The Bucknell men’s swimming & diving team dropped Boston University, 177-123, on Saturday at the Competition Pool.

The Bison (2-0, 2-0 PL) defeated the Terriers (0-1, 0-1 PL) on the strength of eight individual victories and two relay wins.

Leo Kuyl was a standout performer for Bucknell, winning the 50 and 100 freestyle races while anchoring the first-place 200 medley relay team and leading off the first-place 400 freestyle relay squad.

In addition, Chris FabianJohn Gehrig and Liam Pitt all touched the wall first in one individual race while competing on a first-place relay team. Freshman Andy Dorsel won his first collegiate event at Boston University.

The Bison went 1-2-3 in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke. They next host Binghamton on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 1 p.m. for their home opener.

BOSTON – The Boston University women’s swimming & diving team was edged by Bucknell, 163-137, in its season opener on Saturday afternoon at the FitRec Competition Pool.

Five Terriers, including two freshmen, won events on the day and BU also had the top finish in the 200 medley relay.

Senior Sezin Eligul and freshman Alex Pastushan each had a first- and second-place finish as Eligul won the 100 back in a time of 57.61 and Pastushan was first in the 200 back at 2:05.81. Patushan was second behind Eligul in the 100 back while Eligul was runner-up in the 100 free.

The Terriers took 13 of 19 points in each diving event with freshman Sophia Souza and senior Emily Balicanta each winning one event and finishing second in the other. Souza’s 270.60 in the 3-meter event was good for first while Balicanta edged Souza in the 1-meter, 258.15-255.60.

Sophomore Sydney Sorbello finished first in the 50 free (24.28) and freshman Ashley Scafetta earned points in three events, highlighted by a second-place finish in the 1000 free (10:34.91). Sophomore Lara Mitchell earned seven team points, led by a runner-up effort to Pastushan in the 200 back.

The Terriers will return to action next Saturday (Oct. 23) when they host Northeastern and Bryant starting at 1:30 p.m.

BOSTON – The Boston University men’s swimming & diving team kicked off its 2021-22 season on Saturday afternoon at the FitRec Competition Pool and fell short to visiting Bucknell by a score of 177-123.

Junior Kyle Falkstrom won both the 100 and 200 breast (57.10 & 2:05.06) while freshman Lyde De Hooghe took both diving events in his collegiate debut.

Junior Sarsen Whatmore took the 200 free by 2.7 seconds in a time of 1:42.25 and also finished second in the 500 free (4:38.25). In his first collegiate race, freshman Dolan Grisbaum was first in the 1000 free in a time of 9:38.19.

Sophomore Toby Jackson earned points in two races, highlighted by a second-place finish in the 100 fly (51.32), and classmate Olin Jackson did the same, finishing runner-up in the 200 back.

De Hooghe won by comfortable margins in the both the 3- and 1-meter diving events, posting scores of 279.15 and 283.80.

Falkstrom added a second-place effort in the 200 IM to finish the day with 22 points.

The Terriers will return to action next Saturday (Oct. 23) when they host Bryant starting at 1:30 p.m.
