Bryant Women Sweeps Day 1 Races in Opening NEC Title Defense

Northeast Conference (NEC) – Women

The Bryant Bulldogs kicked off their quest for a Northeast Conference 3-peat by sweeping the opening day’s events in East Meadow, New York. That included their 3rd-straight conference title in the 200 medley relay and their 4th-straight conference title in the women’s 800 free relay.

In the opening 200 medley relay, Bryant swam 1:41.56, which put them almost 2 seconds ahead of runners-up Central Connecticut State, who took 2nd in 1:43.47. Bryant returned 3 of their 4 legs from last year’s winning relay, in their title defense, having graduated only anchor Jillian Rice, the 2019 NEC champion in the 50 (and 100) free.

The top 3 of Bryant, Central Connecticut State, and Wagner was the same finish order as last season. Long Island University’s Amanda Peren had the fastest backstroke split in 25.93, with her team placing 4th overall. Bryant’s Kayleigh Canavan (28.44) and Elin Svard (24.20) had the fastest breaststroke and butterfly splits, respectively. Central Connecticut State’s anchor Jeannette King split 22.41 for the fastest freestyle split in the field.

In the women’s 800 free relay, Bryant won in 7:24.59, again beating runners-up Central Connecticut State – this time, in a much-tighter margin of victory. Central Connecticut State took 2nd in 7:52.02, while LIU was 3rd in 7:28.76.

The 4th-place finishers from Wagner were more than 10 seconds behind LIU.

The top split came from Long Island’s anchor Amanda Peren in 1:48.20. The next best was done by Central Connecticut State anchor Simona Visinski in 1:49.23, while Bryant had a pair of 1:49 splits: one on a rolling start from freshman Erin Doruska in 1:49.56, and the other from Alyssa Difiore on a leadoff leg.
