British Swimming Appoints Urvashi Dattani to Board

British Swimming is pleased to announce the appointment of Urvashi Dattani to its Board.

Urvashi has over 30 years of experience as a chartered accountant and last year took early retirement from her role as Senior Manager, Group Risk for Santander UK  where she lead a major regulatory project, resulting in significant Capital savings.

Urvashi began her career with Pannell Kerr Foster (formerly Ball Baker Leake), London before moving to KPMG where she progressed to the role of Client Services Manager for one of the firm’s largest clients.

In 1993 Urvashi moved to Alliance & Leicester plc (now Santander UK) and was appointed Head of Financial Relations to head up key external relationships with city analysts, the Financial Services Authority and rating agencies.

Within this role, Urvashi was part of a small team which took the organisation from a mutual building society to a plc quoted bank.

Urvashi spends a great deal of her time as a trustee for Vista, a charity for people with sight loss in Leicestershire and Rutland and has spent time working with orphanages and an Ashram in India.

“I’m delighted to be joining British Swimming,” Dattani said. “I’m very excited to be able to contribute to the great work of the organisation, from swimming for everyone in the community, to the competitors in the Olympics, Paralympics, World Championships and Commonwealth Games.

“I hope to be able to further develop the success of British Swimming by applying my skills and experience from my Accountancy and Risk work in a major UK bank, and my role as a trustee at a local Sight Loss charity.”

British Swimming Chairman Maurice Watkins said: “We are very pleased that Urvashi Dattani has joined the British Swimming Board. As a chartered accountant with experience in both the private and public sectors, as well as recent responsibilities for regulation and risk at a high corporate level, she will be an excellent replacement for Mike Power who is stepping down after serving his full term in office.

“In welcoming Urvashi to the Board we must acknowledge the very significant contribution that Mike has made to British Swimming in his time as a Board member. It is good that Mike will continue his involvement with the sport through his Board membership of the LEN European Aquatics Championships 2016.”
