Bowling Green tops a feisty Marshall squad to push win streak to 4 with one dual remaining

Bowling Green went on the road this weekend to knock off the Marshall Thundering Herd for its fourth straight win. The Falcons have one more dual meet remaining before the MAC Championships.

Freshman Maya Skorupski took home a pair of events for Bowling Green, going 58.56 in the 100 back and 2:07.57 in the 200 back. The Falcons were also tough in the shorter freestyle races: Victoria Griffin dipped under 24 with a 23.82 win in the 50, while Hannah Newman ran away with the 200 free in 1:53.58.

But Marshall, celebrating its senior night in its last dual meet of the season, fought hard, putting up multiple season-bests and winning some tight finishes to add a little drama to the meet.

Kacey Preun won the 1650 in a season-best 17:23.67 and teammate Kaley Gregory followed her in for second, giving the Thundering Herd a big point swing in the second race of the day. Late in the meet, Gregory came from behind to win the 500 free by just a tenth, and in the very next event Sarah Kay touched out Griffin to win the 100 fly. Kay also won the 200 fly for Marshall.

The final score was 164-94, with Bowling Green picking up the “W.” The Falcons take on Youngstown State this coming weekend in their own senior day, while Marshall will begin its final preparations for the Conference USA Championships in about three weeks.
