Bowdoin College Women, Colby College Men Place First At Maine Collegiate Invite

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Bowdoin women’s swimming and diving team took home the 2022 Maine Collegiate Winter Invite championship after finishing first among nine teams.

Meet Highlights

  • Bowdoin’s relay teams had strong performances on both Friday and Saturday. The combination of Ella MartinTatum ZupnikAnna Roberts, and Ella Riccio won the 200 free relay with a time of 1:34.46 and set a new meet record in the process.
  • The 200 medley relay finished first as well as recorded an NCCA B cut time. Martin, Roberts, Zupnik, and Riccio teamed up for a 1:44.40.
  • The Polar Bears wrapped the meet with a win in the 400 free relay. Martin, Zupnik, Carolyn Casey, and Riccio combined for a time of 3:29.73 and a new meet record.
  • Lizzie Walsh had a fantastic meet and set a new school record in the 500 free (5:01.27) and finished second overall. Walsh was victorious in the 400 IM with a time of 4:25.31 and an NCAA B cut. The first-year turned in another NCAA B cut with a first place finish in the 200 fly (2:05.25).
  • Walsh and Roberts finished first and second respectively in the 200 IM. Walsh broke the meet record with a time of 2:05.28, previously set by Sterling Dixon ’19. The time was also an NCAA B cut.
  • Roberts had the top finish in both the 100 (1:04.87) and 200 (2:21.82) breaststroke.
  • Martin turned in a top performance in the 50 backstroke (25.78).
  • In the 100 fly, the Polar Bears took first, second, seventh, and eighth. Zupnik (57.4) took the top spot, followed by Walsh (57.59). Brynn Wright and Nina Fearon rounded out the top-8.
  • The Bowdoin women finished two-three in the 200 backstroke with Liv Smith and Carolyn Casey touching back-to-back. Riccio and Zupnik reproduced similar results in the 100 free.
  • Sadie Smith finished second in 3-meter with a score of 243.60. Smith was fourth in the 1-meter (232.65).

The Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving teams hosted eight schools in their two-day meet. The Men topped all the competition, placing first with a total score of 1,103 points while the Women took 4th place (out of nine teams).

Men’s Event Winners:

  • Neil Mortimer, Brandon Xiong, Alexander MacLennan, Shaun Kronenwetter – 200 Freestyle Relay
  • Carson Rehkopf, Xiong, Kronenwetter, Mortimer – 400 Freestyle Relay
  • Mortimer – 50 Butterfly (Colby Record), 100 Butterfly (Colby Record), 50 Freestyle
  • Ben Spragg – 200 and 400 Individual Medley (Both Colby Records)
  • Spencer Cohen – 200 Backstroke
  • Anthony Minickiello – 200 Butterfly
  • MacLennan – 3rd Place, 100 Individual Medley (Colby Record)

Women’s Event Winners:

  • Ann Tolan – 50 Butterfly, 50 Freestyle
  • Avery Rappaport – One and Three Meter Diving
