Boomer Robert Phelps Born on May 5 To Michael Phelps & Nicole Johnson

The Phelps baby has arrived! Olympian Michael Phelps posted on Instagram Saturday, announcing the birth of his son, Boomer Robert Phelps on Thursday evening.

Phelps and fiancee Nicole Johnson announced last fall that they were expecting their first child, with a May due date.

It only took 5 days of May for Boomer to make his arrival. Phelps’ Instagram post reports that the baby boy was born on Thursday, May 5th at 7:21 pm.

Phelps said last April that he and Johnson had a name picked out for the child that would carry special significance, though he didn’t publicly reveal the name. Now, though, we know the boy is named “Boomer Robert Phelps” – some had speculated that “Robert” might be in the mix as a name, given Phelps’ close relationship with longtime coach Bob Bowman.

Phelps is currently gearing up for the U.S. Olympic Trials in just under two months. He talked about his plans for balancing fatherhood and one final Olympic run at a meet earlier this year. You can check out that interview here.

Congratulations! I have a gift for Boomer and would like to send it to him. Will you let me know if this gift will be accepted? I am a retired (6/16) kindergarten teacher in Salinas, California. I did not know that Michael had a son and had named him “Boomer”.

Not sure if I agree that the comments are the best part of SwimSwam, but they do usually add good content beyond the typical comments sections.
