Blair Bish Downs Two More Records At 2015 Jenks Sectionals

Recent Arizona commit Blair Bish is on a record-spree at the 2015 Jenks Sectionals, downing his third region 8 sectional record in just two days.

Bish, swimming with the Arkansas Dolphins, swam the 200 IM on night three, taking down the previous region 8 sectional record with the former record holder also in the race. Justin Wu, who set the record at 1:48.96 last season, was unable to keep up with Bish who made his mark on the breaststroke leg. Bish rocked a 30.31 breaststroke split to pull together a 1:48.70 and break the former record. Wu settled for second in 1:50.37.

Shortly after Bish won another gold, beating out a solid field in the 50 freestyle with a 20.51. After that it was back to breaststroke as Bish got ready to swim the 200. He was well ahead of everyone else and solidified his third region 8 sectional record touching in at 1:58.66. Jacob Molacek held the former mark at 1:59.44 which he set last year.

Along with both of Bish’ records, a few pool records were broken as well. Fifteen-year-old Genevieve Pfeifer from Flyers Aquatics set two pool records, and came very close to a region 8 sectional record. In her first event, the 200 IM, she swam a 2:01.17. She was behind Caroline Theil of Greater Nebraska for the majority of the race but managed to pull ahead with a 27.95 free split. She also won the 500 free in 4:49.93 breaking the pool record but falling shy of the region 8 sectional record of 4:49.08.

Both Olivia Calegon of Greater Nebraska and Courtney Caldwell broke a pool record each. Calegon did so in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:17.51 and Caldwell threw down a swift 54.10 in the 100 back.
