HAMILTON, N.Y. – Three weeks into their truncated season, the Binghamton swimming & diving teams are both unbeaten at 4-0.

On Saturday against Colgate, the Bearcat men defeated the Raiders 241-45 while the women were victorious by a score of 156-142. Binghamton posted five double-event winners but it was their depth in places 2-4 that made the difference, especially in the women’s meet.

“Today was another good meet on both sides,” head coach Jerry Cummiskey said. “We had some very good times on both sides compared to when we started the season. The men were in a good position during the whole meet and the women had a lot of top-four places that gave them a cushion at the end of the meet.”

In the men’s meet, senior David Walters swept both the men’s one- and three-meter diving competitions with scores of 258.67 and 267.97 respectively. The current America East Men’s Diver of the Week has now won five individual events so far this year and is unbeaten in the one-meter event this season.

Junior Ryan Board won the 100 breast (56.18) and the 200 breast (1:56.77), freshman Jake Vecchio captured the 100 fly (50.51) and 200 fly (1:53.51) while fellow freshman Christopher Ghim won the 200 back (1:58.83) and tied sophomore Matthew Palguta for first in the 200 free (1:44.96).

In the women’s meet, freshman Courtney Moane swept both the 100 breast (1:07.27) and the 200 breast (2:26.42).  She has now won seven events in her rookie season and is unbeaten in both breaststroke events.

Other individual winners in the men’s meet included freshman Zachary Ciriaco in the 1000 free (9:46.75), sophomore Justin Meyn in the 100 free (47.38), sophomore Xiaoyu Lin in the 200 breast (2:06.85) freshman Liam Murphy in the 500 free (4:43.74) and junior Benjamin Beldner in the 50 free (21.36).

Board and Vecchio also joined senior Shane Morris and freshman Travis Phillips to win the 200 medley relay (1:33.33). Murphy and Beldner teamed up with freshmen Robert Reining and George Kipshidze to take the 200 free relay (1:26.10).

Also on the women’s side, senior Sophia Howard was victorious in the women’s one-meter diving competition (248.24). The current America East Women’s Diver of the Week has now won five events so far this season and remains undefeated in the one-meter event.

Other women’s individual winners against the Raiders included freshman Mel Carousso in the 1000 free (10:50.30), sophomore Manuela Matkovic in the 50 free (25.60) and senior Kaitlyn Smolar in 500 free (5:19.41).

Binghamton returns home for its final regular-season meet of the year next Saturday against St. Bonaventure. Start time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
