Binghamton Earns Sweep Over Holy Cross In Season-Opening Dual

WORCESTER, Mass. – Visiting Binghamton posted six double winners and swept all four relays, highlighting its sweep against Holy Cross in its season-opening dual meet on Friday evening at the Hart Center Pool. The Bearcat won 197-103 while the men recorded a 170.5-129.5 victory.

On the women’s freshman Haley Nowak won a pair of individual events and was on both first-place relay teams. She swept the 100 fly (57.96) and 200 fly (2:08.21). The rest of the first-place 200 medley relay team included seniors Courtney Moane and Molly Greeley as well as sophomore Olivia Philbrick. The other members of the winning 400 free relay team included Greeley, sophomore Maria Pignatelli and senior Maddie Hoover.

Hoover also captured a pair of individual events, winning the 200 free (1:55.15) and the 100 free (53.74). Other double winners included junior Lauren Kuzma in the 200 breast (2:21.07) and 200 IM (2:11.00) and sophomore Elizabeth Tirado in both diving events (240.30 in the one-meter and 244.30 in the three meter).

Other individual winners for the Bearcat women included Philbrick in the 100 back (58.62), Greeley in the 50 free (24.72) and senior Skylar Ward in the 1000 free (10:46.81).

The Bearcat men. Meanwhile, were led by sophomore Liam Preston and junior Elijah Lanfear. Each of them won two events and swam on a first-place relay.

Preston took top honors in the 200 free (1:41.62) and 200 back (1:54.92). He also joined seniors Henry Shemet and Liam Murphy as well as freshman Cullin Cole in the 400 free relay. Together, they recorded a first-place time of 3:08.48.

Lanfear, meanwhile, was first in the 100 free (46.95) and the 100 fly (50.22). He also teamed with seniors Jake VecchioEric Kroon and Mark Crocker in the 200 medley relay. The Bearcat quartet clocked a winning time of 1:35.88.

Other individual winners on the men’s side included Vecchio in the 200 fly and sophomore David Ponce in the 100 back (54.07).

Binghamton stays on the road and travels to Bryant on Saturday for an 11 a.m. dual meet.

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women’s swimming and diving team was upended 197-103 by nonconference opponent Binghamton Friday night in the Hart Center Pool.

With the loss, the Crusaders slide to 1-2 overall on the year while the Bearcats pick up their first win of the campaign.

Senior Greta Walting touched the wall first in the 100-yard breaststroke earning nine points for the Crusaders at 1:06.22. Sophomore Ainsley Nalen had a 2:07.98 time in the 200-yard backstroke finishing the event in 2:07.98.

Freshmen Courtney Boghosian (5:16.36) and Kat Anticev (5:20.09) placed first and second respectively in the 500-yard freestyle.

Senior Katelyn Cerulli was the top diver for the Crusaders in the one-meter dive (235.25) which was good enough for second and she had a 240.40 in the three-meter dive.

Holy Cross hosts Maine in a dual meet on Saturday, November 11 at noon in the Hart Center Pool.
