The Ball State women’s swimming and diving team came up big against Indiana State and Eastern Illinois Friday night. The Cardinals defeated ISU with a final score of 194-97 and defeated Eastern Illinois with a final score of 247-47.
The Cardinals started off the meet with a first and third place finish in the 200 medley relay. Freshman Anne Vormohr, junior Amanda Kedzierski, junior Andrea Richter and freshman Peighton Gilbert made up the first place finish with a final time of 1:45.96. In the third place relay with a final time of 1:51.80, Ball State had senior Courtney Mudd, Sophomore Mason Dahman, freshman Sophie Bader and sophomore Lauren Elston.
Freshmen Cassidy Blackwin and Elizabeth Graham had powerful performances in the 1000 freestyle. Blackwin placed second with a final time of 10:44.62. Graham’s time of 10:53.02 put her in third. Blackwin went on to earn a win in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:13.79.
Sophie Bader had a second place finish in the 200 freestyle with a final time of 1:57.18.
Anne Vormohr took first in the 100 backstroke after touching the wall at 58.86. Courtney Mudd was right behind in second place with at 59.81. Vormohr also recorded a second place finish in the 200 backstroke at 2:08.05.
Amanda Kedzierski earned two first place finishes for the Cardinals. In the 100 breaststroke, Kedzierski finished with a time of 1:04.86. In the 200 breaststroke, she touched the wall at 2:25.89.
Three Cardinals earned points in the 200 butterfly. Senior Katie Horn was on top with a first place finish (2:07.57). Junior Traci Muszalski finished third (2:13.30) while sophomore Maryn Meldrum came in fourth (2:13.68).
Ball State went 1-2-3 in the 50 freestyle. Peighton Gilbert had a first place finish after touching the wall at 24.26. Andrea Richter placed second (24.75) while Courtney Mudd came in third (24.88).
On the 1-meter dive, freshman Rachel Smallwood had an impressive score of 268.35. Sophomore Courtney McKeen finished with a final score of 235.28 while junior Taylor Fiew scored 230.63. In the 3-meter dive, Rachel Bertram led the Cardinals with a score of 248.85. Smallwood scored 237.22 and Fiew scored 221.63.
In the 100 freestyle, Peighton Gilbert finished second (54.51), Sophie Bader placed third (54.61), and Lauren Elson came in fourth (55.29).
In the 100 butterfly, Katie Horn earned first place with a time of 57.61 while Andrea Richter came in second at 58.03.
The Cardinals ended the day with a win in the 200 freestyle relay (1:38.22). The relay was made up of Amanda Kedzierski, Peighton Gilbert, Anne Vormohr and Lauren Elston.
“We are excited to get two more win on the road,” said head coach Kristy Patterson. “Each meet our is progress towards our conference meet, which is in the near future now. We are doing a great job of focusing on the progress, not the outcome. We’ve been hitting it hard in training so to see some of the performances today shows how far they have come mentally and physically.”
The Ball State women’s swimming and diving team will be in action again Jan. 28 in Oxford, Ohio. The meet against Miami is set to begin at 1 p.m.

The Ball State men’s swimming and diving team defeated Eastern Illinois with final score of 187-93.
The Cardinals started off the day with a second and third place finish in the 200 medley relay. Freshman Chase Jackson, sophomore Cullen Tyler, senior Bradley Ridge and senior Austin Green had a final time of 1:36.83. Freshman Logan Ackley, Sophomore Luke Nondorf, Sophomore Alec Tuthill and freshman Ben Andrew came together for a time of 1:38.68.
Ball State took 1-2-3 in the 1000 freestyle. Junior Isaac Walling touched the wall at 10:01.14 for a first place finish. Freshman Jack Luddy placed second (10:15.58) while senior JD Middleton took third (10:16.23).
The Cardinals also had top finishers in the 200 freestyle. Junior Banistre Leinhart’s time of 1:46.67 earned him a first place finish. Senior Jacob Eckert was right behind him with a second place finish at 1:47.03.
In the 100 backstroke, Logan Ackley placed second (54.39) and Chase Jackson placed third (54.50).
Cullen Tyler had a time of 1:00.21 in the 100 breaststroke. Luke Nondorf placed third in the event with a time of 1:00.80. Senior Mitch Prather competed in the 100 breaststroke with a final time of 1:03.04.
Senior Tanner Barton, Bradley Ridge and Alec Tuthill dominated the 200 butterfly, finishing 1-2-3. Barton touched the wall first with a time of 1:55.75. Ridge was second at 1:56.76 while Tuthill touched the wall at 1:58.61.
In the 50 freestyle, Austin Green, Ben Andrew, and Zach Reichle finished in the top five. Green placed first (21.72), Andrew finished in second (21.85) and Reichle took fourth (22.24). Green, Andrew and Reichle also had top finishes in the 100 freestyle. The first place finish went to Green at 47.51 while Andrew placed third at 48.19 and Reichle was fourth with a time of 50.23.
Other top times were Logan Ackley in the 200 backstroke (1:56.89), Cullen Tyler in the 200 breaststroke (2:12.53), Jacob Eckert in the 500 freestyle (4:54.23) and in the 200 IM (1:59.47), Isaac Walling in the 500 freestyle (4:54.79), Bradley Ridge in the 100 butterfly (51.81) and Tanner Barton in the 100 butterfly (52.50).
The Ball State men’s swimming and diving team will compete again Sunday, Jan. 22 in Fishers, Ind. against the Butler Bulldogs. Meet time is set for noon.
