Post Meet Reactions
“It was good to get back to competition after a five-week break. Bucknell hosted a great meet and competed really hard right to the end. We’ve put in some really good, consistent training over the last few weeks.

It was clear that our racing details were a little rusty this afternoon. We have a lot of things to bring back to training next week and try to improve upon.

We have two weeks until we host Loyola Maryland at home for Firstie Night and I’m excited to get back to work.” – Director of Swimming & Diving Brandt Nigro

“After a period of intense training and time away from competition, the team’s performance in their first event back was nothing short of impressive. Their hard work and dedication paid off as they showcased their skill, support for each other, and resilience. This strong return is a testament to their commitment and growth during their time off, and it’s clear that they are poised to achieve even more as the season progresses.” – Head Diving Coach Connor Dorff

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Clara Renner’s third event win of the day led a 1-2-3 Bucknell sweep in the 400-yard individual medley, giving the Bison a three-point lead in the meet, but Army closed with a 1-3 finish in the 200 freestyle relay to steal a 153-147 victory on Saturday afternoon at Kinney Natatorium. The Black Knights improved to 9-1 on the season while the Bison fell to 4-2.

Renner also won the 200 butterfly and the 500 free to keep her sensational rookie season going, and classmate Sofia Burns also had a big day with wins in both backstroke events.

Diver Reggie Frias was victorious on the 3-meter board just before the sweep in the 400 IM, helping the Bison grab the late lead at 143-140. But Army’s 200 free relay posted a 3-second win and their B relay took third to help the Black Knights outscore the Bison 13-4 in the final event of the dual.

Army also went 1-2 in the 200 medley relay to start the day, giving them a 28-6 points advantage in the two relays. The individual events began with a dandy of a race in the 1,000 free, as Army’s Maggie Kroening’s winning time of 10:31.61 was a mere .32 ahead of Bucknell’s Kelly Byrne.

Even though Army won 10 of the 16 events, Bucknell stayed close thanks to its depth. The Bison posted 2-3-4 finishes in four different races, starting with the 200 free with Rylie GilesVirginia Hastings, and Sara Ketron. After Burns clipped Jenna Hart in a close 100 back, Sydney JeeHanna Bingley, and Liz Dokina went 2-3-4 in the 100 breaststroke.

Hastings was barely out-touched by Meghan Cole in the 50 free with Kyla Kelly taking third. The Hastings-Kelly-Ketron trio took the 2-3-4 spots in the 100 free, and then after Burns completed her double in the 200 back, Jee, Byrne, and Dokina went 2-3-4 in the 200 breast.

Renner won the 500 free by a mere .32 over Webber, and then Army picked up big points with the top two finishers in the 100 fly.

Frias, who also finished second on the 1-meter board, scored 256.65 in the 3-meter to edge Army’s Minh Donnell by just 2.32 points. Bucknell followed with the sweep in the 400 IM, but Army, which was coming off a dual win over rival Navy, pulled it out in the final relay.

The Bison will be back in action on Friday at home against Loyola. The action starts at 1 p.m., with live coverage on YouTube.

LEWISBURG, Pa. – James Lombardi led a 1-2 Bucknell finish in the 200-yard breaststroke and Jack Krug became just the fifth diver in team history to score over 300 points in the 3-meter event, but Army West Point had too much depth and defeated the Bison 209-89 on Saturday at Kinney Natatorium.

Army, which was coming off a dual win over arch-rival Navy, won 15 of the 16 events, while Bucknell (3-3) nabbed six runner-up finishes.

Lombardi captured the 200 breast in a time of 2:06.07, which was a half-second in front of teammate Will Hedges.

The Bison also had a close call in the 200 butterfly, where Andy Dorsel was runner-up to Army’s Jacob Mowery by only .16 seconds. Shane Wynne and Ed Parks followed in third and fourth. Bucknell also went 2-3-4 in the 1,000 freestyle (Alex CrossingFinn FranksWilliam Shoemaker) and the 400 individual medley (Dorsel, Riley TwissDante Buonadonna).

Krug finished in second place in the 3-meter diving event after taking third on the 1-meter board. His 3-meter score of 306.00 was a personal best and moved him up to the No. 3 spot in team history, trailing only David Magaro (343.55 in 2011) and teammate Jackson Vinarub (307.80 earlier this season). Tyler Wenzel and Adam Freeman are the only other Bison divers to eclipse 300 points since the six-optionals format started in 2005.

Bucknell closed out the meet with a second-place finish in the 200 free relay, comprised of Chris KopacFinn RussellColin Smith, and Justin DiSanto.

The Bison will be back in action on Friday at home against Loyola. The action starts at 1 p.m., with live coverage on YouTube.
