Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Making the decision to stay close to home to continue his swimming career, Andrew Teh of Irvine, California will join the California Baptist University swim team this fall while studying kinesiology. Teh is currently finishing high school at Crean Lutheran South High School, a short forty-minute drive from his future college campus.
Last May, at the end of his junior year, Teh was one of the top backstrokers in the state of California. At the 2022 CIF Swimming and Diving State Championships, he finished 16th in the 100 back, touching in 50.20. He was slightly faster during prelims of the event, finishing in a lifetime best of 50.04.
Since that meet, he has dropped over as second in that event. In December, at the Winter Junior Championships – West, he finished 20th in the 100 back, touching in a lifetime best of 48.72. He also added a then-lifetime best in the 100 fly at that meet, touching at 49.48.
Top SCY Times
- 100 back – 48.72
- 200 back – 1:48.56
- 100 fly – 48.06
- 200 fly – 1:47.87
When he arrives on campus this fall, Teh will make an immediate impact on the Lancer’s butterfly and backstroke groups. During the 2022-2023 school year, his lifetime best in the 100 fly would have led the team by over a second while his 100 back, 200 back, and 100 fly would have been among the top three at the school.
Not only would Teh have led the Lancers in the 200 fly last season, but he would also have been fast enough to score in the A-final of the event at the 2023 Western Athletic Conference Championships. CBU didn’t have a single A-finalist in the event last year. His time in the 100 back would have also earned him a spot in the A-final.
When he arrives on campus this fall, Teh will help fill the hole left by current graduate student Robert Moseley. Moseley held the team’s top time in the 100 fly and 200 back this season. He finished in the A-final of the fly and B-final of the back at the WAC Championships this year.
This season, CBU qualified one swimmer for the NCAA Championships, with sophomore Remi Fabiani set to contest three events at the meet. His top seed is in the 50 free, where he enters the meet as the 17th fastest in the event.
California Baptist has been on the rise since competing as an NAIA school as recently as 2011. The program only made the move to Division I five years ago after spending six years as a Division II program. This season, the Lancers finished in third at the 2023 WAC Championships and 17th at the 2023 National Invitational Championships.
