LEXINGTON, Va. – The first meet of 2022 ended in victory for both the women and men’s teams for American University swim & dive. In a dual meet at Virginia Military Institute, the women won all 14 swimming events on their way to a 232-61 overall victory. The men’s team took first in half the swimming events and both diving events, ultimately taking first overall by a score of 159-126.
WOMEN’S NOTABLE RESULTS
- The women’s 400 medley relay got the Eagles off to a strong start, as they took the top three spots with their A, B and C teams. The A team of Amaya Tomma, Kenzie Cresci, Mimi Watts and Eleanor Felton took first in 4:02:10.
- Cresci went on to take individual wins in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke, in 1:09.23 and 2:31.61, respectively.
- Also coming up with two individual wins was Mallory Meister who took first in both the 200 free (2:00.32) and 500 free (5:19.27).
- Watts put on a show in the 200 fly with a winning time of 2:03.73, nearly 13 seconds ahead of second place. She also won the 100 free with a time of 53.21 that was over four seconds ahead of the next finisher.
- Watts ended up with four wins for the day by teaming with Felton, Meister and Marissa Kleckner for a 400 freestyle relay win in the final event (3:41.43).
- Felton took first on her own in the 50 free (25.64), as did Sasha Uspenskaya in the 200 back (2:18.68) and Sarah Milbrandt in the 100 fly (59.83). Kayla Winters was the top finisher in the 200 IM with a time of 2:16.10.
- Tyler DiMarco and Kleckner went 1-2 in the 1650 freestyle.
- Laura Laux, Tomma and Uspenskaya went 1-2-3 in the 100 backstroke.
MEN’S NOTABLE RESULTS
- Caleb Farris was an individual winner in the 200 free with a time of 1:47.16. He teamed up with Will Deitch, Jonathan Quick and Nick Buckley for another win in the 400 free relay (3.12.43).
- Quick also earned a win in the 100 fly, finishing in 52.40.
- Just behind Farris in the 200 free was Seamus Brown, who later won the 500 free in 4:51.67 which was nine seconds ahead of second place.
- Will Timme had a strong showing in winning the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:12.16.
- Griffin Batt swept the men’s diving events. His 1-meter score of 247.20 was just five points shy of his personal record that ranks third all-time.
- Luke Bennett won the 1650 free in 17:32.81, and Buckley was a winner in the 50 free in 21.32.

- The Eagles will be back in action next weekend at Old Dominion, taking on the Monarchs in a noon dual meet on Saturday, Jan. 22.

LEXINGTON, Va. – Despite some top performances from the VMI men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams Saturday, American University topped the Keydets in non-conference action from Clark King Pool. The Eagle men won 159-126 while the women’s team was victorious 232-61.
The program’s three seniors, Ryan Cooper, Colin Gibbons and Andrew Mills were honored in a pre-meet ceremony.
Rachel Greathouse snapped the freshman school record in the 200 fly, finishing second in 2:16.49. She also finished second in the 200 free in 5:27. London Yerasimides won both the 1 meter (208.12) and 3 meter (204.53) diving competitions. Anne Bowles placed second in the 100 breast in 1:09.43 and third in the 200 breast while Carter Wasser was third in the 200 back and fourth in the 100 back. Sarah Liebenow was fourth in the 1650 free and 200 IM and Courtney Novotny was fourth in the 100 fly and 200 free. Kate Taylor placed fourth in each the 50 and 100 free and the 400 medley relay team of Wasser, Bowles, Novotny and Taylor was fourth in 4:20.57. Novotny, Jillian Maher, Taylor and Greathouse teamed up to place fourth in the 400 free relay.
The men’s team had several first-place finishers, including Connor Doyle in the 100 back in 54.07 and 200 back in 1:59.04. Jack Sheehan won the 200 IM in 1:58.78 and the 100 breast in 59.74 and was second in the 200 breast in 2:16.63. Chino Vera won the 100 free in 47.78 and was second in the 50 free in 21.50. Ethan Griffith captured the 200 fly in 2:00.86 and took second in the 500 free in 5:00.26. Bridger Thurston took second in 1 meter (233.85) and 3 meter (187.20) diving while Tyler Blackwell was second in the 100 fly in 53.77. Dalton Cosner placed fourth in the 200 free.
The 400 medley team of Doyle, Sheehan, Blackwell and Vera finished first in 3:35.22 while the 400 free team of Collin Marks, Cosner, Doyle and Vera were second in 3:13.93.
VMI will stay in Lexington next Saturday with a meet at neighboring Washington & Lee University at 1 p.m.
