Alexandra Walsh Nails Second National Age Group Record in Two Days

The boys have been having too much fun in the last year with the younger end of the National Age Group Records, and Alexandra Walsh of the Chelsea Piers Aquatic Club in Connecticut is turning the tide.

After breaking the 100 IM record on Friday, we alluded to the fact that Walsh was a great backstroker and there might be more records to come from her, and come they did. Walsh swam a 55.31 on Saturday in the 100 yard backstroke at the Connecticut Age Group Championships, which broke the 55.68 jointly held by Janet Hu and Kathleen Baker. That’s the fastest time in the history of 11-12 swimming in that event.

Walsh split 27.16/28.15 en route to her record-breaking performance. Her best time coming into the meet was a 55.98, so she wasn’t far off of the record. She has the 50 back to come with another shot at a record there.

according to meet mobile, she just went a 2:15.64 in the 200 breaststroke which would be a new national age group record

Congrats to Miss Walsh!
She’s amazing and so versatile.
Great all-around swimmer in the making.
She’s fast on breaststroke and on backstroke.
Not common.
She looks like Kathleen Baker from that point of view.

Unfortunately for her, the future swimming legend Regan Smith has broken her backstroke record. But no regrets, Regan will put it in the 53 in the next months.

A little correction Braden. The 200 back was on Friday and Miss Walsh didn’t swim it. She still has the 50 back and the 200 breast on Sunday. Too bad she doesn’t swim the 200 IM. She could have broken the NAG record.

1:59.49 is the NAG, right? Not 1:49.49

I feel like if the record was 1:49.49 the 100 record would probably be under 55 🙂
