U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo., – The women’s swimming and diving team opened the new year with success, dominating the quad meet over Mines Northern Colorado, and UTRGV, on Saturday afternoon at the Cadet Natatorium.

“Today was an all-around team effort,” explains head coach Colleen Murphy. “It is always hard to return to altitude after the holiday break, but the team rose to the challenge and raced hard and dove well.”

The Falcons took the top spot in eight events, highlighted by two individual wins from Abby Turner in the 50 freestyle (23.91) and the 100 freestyle (52.33), and Kai-Min Tsuei taking the 100 backstroke (57.39) and the 200 backstroke (2:08.33).

Additionally, Air Force succeeded in the 200 breaststroke (Mandy Fleetwood, 2:21.44), 200 IM (Ella Rudik, 2:11.89), 200 medley relay (Tsuei, Maeve LinscottAmber Martin, Turner, 1:45.22), and the 400 freestyle relay (Ryan MillsKirsten LeeLily Larson, Turner, 3:31.74).

Air Force completed the meet with a total 36 top five individual finishes.

Freshman diver, Chloe Perkins collected two individual wins to lead the Falcons with a score of 256.95 on the 1-meter and 291.50 points on the 3-meter.

On the women’s side, the Falcons will host New Mexico and Colorado State for a Mountain West match up, with non-conference opponent Seattle University in attendance, on January 17th and 18th. The men’s swimming and diving team look face Seattle University in a WAC competition. Action at the Cadet Natatorium in USAF Academy, Colo., is slated for 5 p.m. MT on the 17th and will resume at 11 a.m. on the 18th.

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo., – The men’s swimming team began the year victorious, notching a 167.00-94.00 win over Colorado School of Mines, on Saturday afternoon at the Cadet Natatorium.

The Falcons compiled nine individual first place finishes.

In the 200 medley relay, the Air Force team of Garrett KennedyTommy NagleTanner Wilson, and Joe Christ took first with a time of 1:33.01 and were followed closely by teammates Jacob Bulesco, Bridon RosalesJames Winterfield, and Chase Dwornicki (1:33.24) in second.

Evan Witte led the way in the 1000 freestyle, clocking a first-place finish at 9:50.13, and saw fellow Falcon, Tucker Rice in third with a 9:59.71 finish. Witte also managed to finish in the lead of the 500 freestyle, at 4:48.91, with teammates Christ (4:49.23) and Tucker (4:51.38) in second and third.

Christ and Winterfield finished back-to-back in the 200 free, with Christ in first at 1:42.51.

In the 100 breaststroke, the Falcons took the top four spots, seeing Rosales finish first at 55.81. He was followed by Wilson (56.34), Mack Nuval (57.70), and Nagle (58.42).

Daniel Detjen notched a final time of 1:53.73 in the 200 butterfly, beating out the Orediggers as the only Falcon in the race, and finished first in the 100 butterfly (50.65).

A pair of Falcons, Louis Body and Garrett Kennedy, took the top two spots in the 200 backstroke, with Body completing the race in first with a time of 1:54.01.

Air Force dominated the 200 breaststroke, seeing all Falcons in the top four. Wilson paved the way in first, marking a time of 2:04.93. Anthony Sebastian followed in second at 2:06.78, and Rosales (2:10.09) and Nagle (2:12.28) took third and fourth, respectively.

Camden Swigart represented the Falcons in a close 200 IM, for a first-place finish at 1:57.55.

The men’s swimming and diving team look face Seattle University in a WAC competition. Action at the Cadet Natatorium in USAF Academy, Colo., is slated for 5 p.m. MT on the 17th and will resume at 11 a.m. on the 18th.

USAFA, Colo. – The nationally-ranked Colorado School of Mines Men’s and Women’s Swimming teams competed in a full day of racing on Saturday at Air Force in a dual for the men and a quad for the women.

Outside of Mines, the entire field was made up of NCAA Division I swimmers. The Oredigger men went head-to-head with the host Falcons and fell by a score of 167-94. In their quad, Mines’ women went up against Air Force, Northern Colorado, and University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV). The final tallies had the Falcons and Bears winning by scores of 239-54 and 225-68, respectively. The Oredigger women earned a 190-87 victory over UTRGV. Despite multiple lopsided margins, Mines walked away with plenty of highlights.

Julie Gill was a huge bright spot for Mines’ women. She raced to straight-up silver in the 1000-free thanks to a time of 11:05.61. That raw mark came at more than 7,000 feet of elevation. Gill also added bronze in the 500-free with a time of 5:23.39 to cap a marathon-type day of distance racing. Also notable for the Oredigger women was Jennifer Pierson who competed four different times. She was on Mines’ top 200-medley relay, led the Orediggers in the 200-free, took bronze in the 100-free, and started off Mines’ top 400-freestyle relay.

On the men’s side, a head-to-head dual provided opportunities for high finishes, and the Orediggers took advantage. Vladislav Kazakin provided the first highlight with silver in the 1000-free. After that, Jakson Winn and Luca Burns swept gold and silver in the 100-back.  Jaron O’Grady’s silver in the 200-fly led to gold for Michael Kietzman in the 50-free. The 100-free brought another gold-silver sweep thanks to speedy races by Winn and Kietzman. Ronan Lauinger showed out by claiming silver in the 200-IM. The Oredigger men capped a quality day with a first-place finish in the 400-freestyle relay. The winning quartet featured Kietzman, Sawyer Jones, Kazakin, and Winn.

Next weekend, Mines’ men and women host Wyoming on Saturday at 11 a.m. It will also be Senior Day for the Orediggers with festivities beginning at 10:40 a.m. Free live results and video on the RMAC Network will be available at www.minesathletics.com.

USAFA, Colo. – Northern Colorado swimming and diving delivered a competitive showing at the U.S. Air Force Academy on Saturday afternoon. The Bears wrapped up the dual meet with a 2-1 record, including dominant victories over UTRGV (245-53) and Colorado School of Mines (225-68), while coming up short against Air Force (191.5-108.5).

SWIMMING HIGHLIGHTS
Sophomore Kyra Rabess led the Bears in the pool with wins in the distance freestyle events. She captured first place in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:46.62 and followed with another victory in the 500-yard freestyle at 5:15.58.

In the 200-yard butterfly, sophomore Ellyson Lombardi delivered a standout performance, winning with a time of 2:05.35. Graduate student Payten Irwin secured second in the same event at 2:08.81. Freshman Ariane Bernier was a force in the backstroke events, placing third in the 200-yard backstroke (2:08.80) and fourth in the 100-yard backstroke (59.78).

The Bears’ relays also excelled, with the quartet of sophomore Martina Yuki Trionfetti, junior Maria Erokhina, Lombardi, and freshman Vitoria Simioni placing second in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:46.25, narrowly missing the top spot.

Erokhina claimed the 100-yard breaststroke title with a time of 1:05.06 and added a third-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:25.99). Freshman Birgitta Ingolfsdottir also impressed in the breaststroke, finishing fifth in the 100-yard event (1:07.02).

DIVING HIGHLIGHTS
Senior Madison Berg led the way with a second-place finish on the 1-meter board, scoring an impressive 251.10 points. Berg’s dives were clean and confident, demonstrating her veteran experience. Freshman Mireya Ruiz followed with a strong ninth-place performance, earning 203.05 points.

In the 3-meter competition, the Bears continued to shine. Berg finished fourth overall with a score of 243.75, while Ruiz secured sixth place with 220.85 points.

The Bears will host Colorado State for a dual meet on Friday, Jan. 24 with a start time of 4 p.m.

USAF, Colo. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley’s swimming and diving program came up short against Air Force, Northern Colorado, and Colorado School of Mines Saturday at the Air Force Quad Meet at Cadet Natatorium in USAF, Colo.

The Vaqueros picked up three top-five finishes and 12 top-10 finishes on Saturday.

Freshman Annaleagh Stahl finished fourth in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:09.44 and fifth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.06. Stahl also finished seventh in the 200 individual medley.

Meanwhile, junior Delaney Murphy earned fifth in the 3-meter springboard with a score of 228.55 while finishing sixth in the 1-meter springboard.

In the 100 breaststroke, freshman Alexia Gonzalez finished in ninth with a time of 1:24.57 and freshman Caitlynn Rubio finished in 10th.

Sophomore Olivia Votava took 10th in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:47.99.

In the 200 medley relay, Stahl, Votava, sophomore Hailey Garcia-Rivas, and freshman Sarah Garcia finished in ninth with a time of 1:56.01 while freshmen Lauren UribeDiara Aleman, Gonzalez, and Audrey Trevino finished in 10th.

In the 400 freestyle relay, freshman Madiana Lofgren, sophomores AJ Rogers and Chloe Siegrist, and Garcia picked up ninth while freshmen Audrey TrevinoCaitlyn Brown, Rubio, and Abygail Martinez finished in 10th.

Up next, the Vaqueros will return home to take on the North Texas Mean Green at the City of Pharr-PSJA Natatorium from Jan. 24-25. Day one will start at 5 p.m. while day two will start at 11 a.m.
