Air Force Earns Narrow Sweep Over Denver At Colorado Sprint Championships

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo., – Following senior recognition festivities for the Falcon graduates, Air Force soared to victory over Denver University, 194-184, at the Colorado Sprint Championships, on Saturday afternoon.

“Today was a lot of fun, the meet came down to the final relay and we pulled through for a big win,” explained head coach Colleen Murphy. “Honoring eight of seniors, who have been the backbone of our team with a final home win, was very special. We are going to miss this class, they have raised the bar for this team and established an unmatched standard of excellence.”

The Falcons recorded 12 top five placements, with individual wins by Kai-Min Tsuei and Abby Turner.

Senior swimmer, Turner, notched a first-place finish in the 50 freestyle final, clocking a time of 23.51. She was followed by teammate Lily Bachl in fourth, at 23.83

Touching the wall at 26.07, Tsuei won the 50 backstroke and marked a CSCAA B Standard. Hanani Dona trailed in third with a time of 26.20, while Addy Forbes marked a fourth-place finish at 26.46.

In the 200 medley relay, the Air Force team of Tsuei, Naomi FurmanAmber Martin, and Turner finished with a time of 1:42.03 in first place.

With a win on the line, Ryan Mills, Turner, Tsuei, and Bachl out swam the Pioneers to take first at 1:34.10, securing a victorious outcome for the Falcons.

In the 50 butterfly, A. Martin represented the Falcons in second place, touching the wall at 25.27 to earn a CSCAA B Standard.

Finishing at 2:07.78, Jessie McNeil placed second in the 200 IM, while fellow Falcon Jordan Evans took fifth at 2:09.82.

Furman scored for Air Force in the 50 breast, clocking a 29.00 second place finish and a CSCAA B Standard, along with the ninth-fastest time in the Mountain West. Mandy Fleetwood close behind in third with a CSCAA B Standard of 29.36.

Lauren Arnold was the sole top-five finisher for Air Force in the 200 freestyle finals. She swam a 1:54.00 to earn fifth.

On the diving side, Kacey Hu won the 1-meter springboard, scoring 255.60. Chloe Perkins marked a second place finish with 244.10, and were followed by JaiQi Deng, who scored 231.00 for third.

Perkins notched a dominant win on the 3-meter springboard, with a score of 293.80. Hu tallied 230.30 for second and Annaliese Cundiff placed fourth, earning a score of 223.35.

Murphy said, “Our sprinters, especially senior Abby Turner and junior Kai-Min Tsuei, the diving team, and IMer Jessie McNeil led the team through the meet.”

Up next, the Falcons will travel to Denver, Colo., to compete in the First Chance Invitational as the regular season closes. Competition is slated for 3:00 p.m. MT on Feb. 14 and 15th.

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo., – Following senior recognition and festivities, the Falcons defeated Denver University, 192-186, at the Colorado Sprint Championships, on Saturday afternoon.

Air Force saw 12 swimmers compete in finals, with James Winterfield placing first in three events and Bridon Rosales marking one top finish.

To open the meet, the Falcon relay team of Winterfield, Rosales, Tanner Wilson, and Jacob Bulseco earned a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay, at 1:29.05.

Junior, Winterfield, touched the wall in first at 1:38.87, in the 200 freestyle final, while teammate, Joe Christ, trailed in a close second, 1:39.26.

In the 50 butterfly final, Winterfield notched a time of 21.78 to take his second top finish of the day and earned a CSCAA A Standard and the second-fastest Western Athletic Conference time.

Winterfield finished at 1:49.61 to earn a first-place finish in the 200 IM final, with Camden Swigart earning second place, after marking a time of 1:51.70.

Taking first in the 50 breaststroke, Rosales notched a 24.75 finish, for a CSCAA A Standard, with teammate Mack Nuval right behind, at 25.29, locking in a CSCAA B Standard.

The 500 freestyle final saw three Falcons place top five. Tyler Surratt led, touching the wall in second at 4:35.50. With a time of 4:36.66, Christ followed in third. Freshman, Evan Witte, rounded out the top five, clocking a 4:39.73 finish.

Bulseco took second place with a time of 20.39, as the only swimmer to represent Air Force in the 50 freestyle final.

Garrett Kennedy competed for the Falcons in the 50 backstroke and claimed third place at 23.31.

On the diving side, the Air Force swept the top four of the 1-meter springboard. Brady Nichol led the way in first, scoring 260.95. Senior, Alex Kenyon notched a score of 250.35 to take second place. In third, Tristan Trax finished with a score of 238.00, while Gavin Wixom marked 234.35 for fourth.

The 3-meter springboard saw Nichol with another first-place finish, scoring 303.50. Kenyon followed in third at 273.40, with Tyler Tolerico scoring 255.20 to take fourth place.

Up next, the Falcons will travel to Denver, Colo., to compete in the First Chance Invitational as the regular season closes. Competition is slated for 3:00 p.m. MT on Feb. 14 and 15th.

USAFA, Colo. – The University of Denver men’s and women’s swimmers dropped their duals with Air Force on Saturday in the 2025 Colorado Sprint Championships inside Cadet Natatorium.

Event-by-Event Recap:
In the first individual event of the day, Denver’s women took the top four spots in the women’s 200 free. Ines Marin led the Pioneer quartet with an 1:52.38, Nika Spehar finished second in 1:53.34, Kali Metuzals rounded out the podium places with a 1:53.45 and Daniela Alfaro took fourth in 1:53.51.

The first of three segments of sprint events were the prelim events took place to trim the sprint fields down to eight swimmers.

Following the prelims, Denver’s women took the top five spots in the 500 free on Saturday. Alfaro took first in 5:02.78, Paige Reilly grabbed second in 5:04.31, Spehar took third in 5:06.86, Sabrina Rachjaibun finished fourth in 5:06.99 and Kiki Lindsay finished fifth in 5:08.81.

After the women’s distance race, the sprint races took eight racers to the semifinal stage in each event, dwindling down the field to four for the finals later in the meet.

Kieran Watson won the men’s distance race finishing the 500 in 4:35.35.

Denver’s women had three swimmers in the 50 fly finals. Marin got back in the win column with a 25.23, edging out a tie for second that included Pioneer Ali Beay.

The Pioneer men grabbed the final two podium spots in the 50 fly. Hamish McLellan took second in 21.84 and Brandon Chapman finished third in 22.18.

Beay scored more points for the Pioneers in the 50 back, taking second in the finals session with a 26.08.

On the men’s side, Denver had three swimmers in the final, led by Dylan Wright who won the 50 back with a 23.09, just ahead of Max Roslin who finished second in 23.28.

Zoe Lynch got the Denver women back to the top step of the podium in the 50 breast with her time of 28.93.

Megan Lucyshyn and Angie Wyand finished 2-3 in the women’s 50 free final with times of 23.54 and 23.76, respectively.

Frank Tirone outswam the field in the 50 free on the men’s side with a 20.13.

Back to full fields for the remainder of the meet, Mina Ada Solaker won the 200 IM with her time of 2:05.58. Rachjaibun rounded out the podium places with a time of 2:08.04.

Nico Morton earned a 200IM podium spot on the men’s side, taking third in 1:52.20.

Diving scores from the 2025 Air Force Diving Invite were counted into the team scores of this meet.

Denver will be back inside El Pomar Natatorium for the final time in the 2024-25 season next weekend when the Pioneers host the 2025 First Chance Invitational. Diving begins at 11 a.m. on Friday before the swimming action gets underway at 3 p.m. MT. Saturday’s action only features swimming, which begins at 10 a.m. MT.
