FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University swimming and diving teams put together a sweep against Providence College this afternoon at the RecPlex pool. The women’s team outscored the Friars by a 212-85 count while the men’s team posted a 228-68 victory against the visitors. Freshman Jack Behm highlighted the afternoon by setting the pool record in the 200 back with a time of 2:07.42.

Fairfield won 26 events in the dual meet with nine student-athletes garnering two individual wins in the event. Lilliam Tonole picked up wins in both diving events, netting 222.45 points in the 1-meter and 232.20 points in the 3-meter. Andrew Cataldo did the same for the Stags, registering 240.00 points in the 1-meter and 285.45 points in the 3-meter to sweep the afternoon.

Erin Hoyland secured a double win in the 800 free (9:20.78) and the 400 IM (5:09.39) as did Joseph Stewart in the 800 free (8:39.07) and the 100 free (52.10). Sofia Smerechniak collected the top times in the 200 free (2:09.93) and the 400 free (4:35.54), while Tim Regan won both of those events on the men’s side by clocking in at 1:53.15 for the 200 free and 4:07.78 for the 400 free.

Erini Pappas, who won three events last week at Bryant, continued her winning ways with first-place swims in the 100 back (1:05.09) and the 200 back (2:21.06). Olivia Thompson rounded out the double winner by touching the wall first in both the 50 free (27.30) and 1:00.45).

In the relays, the Stags won all four events with the women scoring first place points in the 200 medley relay (1:58.24) and the men recording the best time in the race at 1:46.00. The teams had equal success in the 400 free relay with the women posting a time of 4:02.11 and the men completing the distance in 3:30.84.

The Fairfield University swimming and diving teams will continue the dual meet portion of their schedules by hosting Monmouth University next Saturday beginning at noon. After that meet, the Stags will return to the road for their only tri-meet of the campaign, traveling to Marist College for the afternoon along with St. Bonaventure University.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College swimming & diving programs completed a weekend of competition with a dual meet at Fairfield University on Saturday, Oct. 19 in Fairfield, Conn. The men’s team was defeated, 228-68, and the women’s team was defeated 212-85.

Annie Gathof earned two first-places finishes on the day, marking the lone victories of the meet for Providence. She claimed wins in the 100 SC meter butterfly (1:05.82) and the 200 SC meter butterfly (2:25.96.

Providence returns to action on Oct. 26 with a home meet against Iona University at Taylor Natatorium.
