Sprinter Lyndsey Huizenga Announces Verbal Commitment to Tennessee

Lyndsey Huizenga of Windermere, Florida has announced via social media that she verbally committed to swim for the University of Tennessee beginning in the 2019-20 school year.

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Tennessee for the Class of 2023! I would like to thank my parents, teammates, and friends along with my coach Alex Dehner for all their support. Go Vols!!?? #SEC”

Huizenga is a junior at Windermere Preparatory School and primarily a sprint freestyler. After a 12th-place finish in the 50 free during her freshman season, she has been fifth in each of the last two years at the FHSAA Class 1A State Championships. This past November, her time of 23.44 was a personal best and a full 1.4 seconds faster than her time as a freshman. She also finaled in the 100 free (16th) and anchored the 10th-place 200 medley relay (23.18).

Huizenga does her year-round training with Windermere Lakers. She is a relative newcomer to the sport (she took up swimming at Windermere Prep in sixth grade then added club swimming the following year) and is still improving. At the 2018 Florida Swimming Spring Senior Championships, she won the B finals of the girls 15-16 50 free and 50 breast and placed 11th in the 50 fly, earning new PBs in both the breast and the fly.

Top SCY times:

  • 50 free – 23.44
  • 100 free – 52.56
  • 50 breast – 30.81
  • 50 fly – 26.60
