Two women broke 58 seconds in the 100 fly, with Ilaria Bianchi touching out Elena Di Liddo, 57.70 to 57.75. The pair of veterans now rank 10th and 11th in the world this year, respectively.
Fabio Scozzoli rattled the Italian national record in the 100 breast, going 59.33, the only finisher under a minute in the field. He was just .32 off of the 59.01 national mark held by Nicolo Martinenghi, who didn’t race today. In the women’s 200 breast, Francesca Fangio raced to a time of 2:26.72 to win by over a second.
After already winning the 50 free last night, Andrea Vergani tabbed another victory, this time in the 50 fly. His time of 23.65 beat out Piero Codia (23.73) and Daniele D’Angelo (23.80). The 50 back was also close on the women’s side, with Silvia Scalia (28.30) edging out Tania Quaglieri (28.46), as all eight A-finalists were under 29 seconds.
OTHER WINNERS
- Stefania Pirozzi claimed the women’s 200 free in 1:59.71. Linda Caponi also broke two minutes, swimming a 1:59.94.
- In the men’s 4×200 free relay, Centro Sportivo Esercito tied with Centro Sportivo Carabinieri at 7:16.31. Samuel Pizzetti was 1:47.29 leading off for Carabinieri, while Matteo Ciampi had a strong 1:46.97 anchor leg for Esercito.
Why didn’t Vergani go to Cal? Maybe they could have an A finalist in the 100 free
I believe you mean to write that Ceccon is 10th in the world, not the country
I believe that’s Scozzoli’s first PB in the 100 in almost seven years. He was 59.42 for silver at the 2011 worlds in Shanghai.
