Michael Andrew capped off day 3 of the 2015 Speedo West Winter Junior Championships with two NAG records in each session after breaking the 100 breast for the second time Friday night.
The ‘double-double’ of sorts included National Age Group (NAG) records in the 100 fly and 100 breast at prelims, followed by a new 100 fly mark in finals and eventually another 100 breast NAG as well.
The breaststroke final was Andrew’s fifth swim of the day, after he swam the 100 back in prelims as well. Andrew qualified third there but scratched out to focus on his other two races.
After swimming to a 52.50 in prelims to break Carsten Vissering‘s 15-16 NAG, Andrew used the extra rest from the backstroke scratch to pop a 52.21 at night, winning by 1.6 seconds and moving the NAG record down more than half a second from where it was prior to this weekend.
A quick look at the splits from both of Andrew’s swims today along with Vissering’s old record:

Andrew continues to get the job done in the front half, now outsplitting the old record by a half-second in the opening 50. The majority of his drop from prelims to finals also came in the opening stretch, where he dropped his split from 24.5 to 24.3.
Andrew is done for the night in Austin, and is not entered in any of tomorrow’s events.
His kick looks really strange compared to all other breaststrokers in the race. Does anyone have an analysis on that? or what he could be doing differently?

Can we have an article on Hoffer? Michael Andrews times are amazing but Ryan Hoffer turned 17 quite recently and his times have been amazing, you guys talked about how great of a recruit Seliskar www because he could score in multiple events as a freshmen Hoffer’s times this meet put him in the top 8 for back fly and free at last years NCAA’s in addition to that his free would put him on any relay. Michael Andrew is great but Hoffer deserves just as much recognition
