Video: Michael Jamieson – Next Year’s Olympic Games Are The Big Picture

Scottish swimming super-star Michael Jamieson picked up another national championship victory this Friday with a win in his top event, the 200m breaststroke.

Touching the wall in 2:12.16, Jamieson was just over a second slower than the 2:10.96 he went at the British Swimming Trials in April that currently ranks him 23rd in the world.

The 2012 Olympic silver medallist missed out on making the 2015 World Championships team this season, and instead is focusing all his efforts on the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio next summer.

Jamieson has long been one of the stars on the Scottish and British swim teams, however with the recent surge of top-notch breaststrokers hailing from Great Brtiain, Jamieson fell just short of making the World Championship team.

Adam Peaty of England has flown onto the scene as the top breaststroker in the world at the moment, setting a new unprecedented world record at British trials, dipping under 58-seconds.

Jamieson still wants to compete with his countrymen, as well as the other top breaststrokers in the world. In the interview above, Jamieson stated that he would be competing at the French Open next week.

After that, Jamieson stated that he will begin to rest and taper in preparation for the U.S National Championships in San Antonio, Texas this August.

There, he’ll look to compare his results to what is being swum at the World Championships in Kazan, Russia.

Although disappointed he wont be there, Jamieson stated that his main focus is the 2016 Olympic Games, and that that’s the big picture.

Breast stroke is the wild wild west of swimming right now. It’s a shame the uk’s best 200 breaststroker who is .42 outside the wr in a 200! doesn’t get to swim the event at worlds. And Americas best 100 breaststroker doesn’t get to swim that event at worlds.

WAS .4 off WR 3 years ago. I don’t see any crocodile tears for the WR holder ( some Japanese guy) .

That’s sport . Jamieson is boring the pants off everyone . It is a race not a referendum.
