757swim Sweeps Virginia Small Team Titles in First Year of Team

CHRISTIANSBURG, VA- The 757swim team rode the strength of 2 Meet Records and 3 Event Champion swims to lock down the Small Team Top Points honors at the Virginia Swimming Age Group Championships, held this past weekend in Christiansburg, Virginia.

The team now has two State titles on the season, after winning the Small Team Championship last weekend at the Virginia Swimming Senior State Championship Meet. The Age Group Championship meet was for swimmers aged 14 and below.

Colby Hurt won two state titles and set two meet records in the 200 yard Breaststroke and 200 yard Individual Medley events. Sofia Long also locked down a state title in the 100 Yard Freestyle, a race in which Hurt finished in 3rd. Hurt would finish with 122.5 points, which led all scorers in the women’s 13-14 Age Group. Long scored 95 points, adding a 2nd place finish in the 50 Freestyle and a 4th in the 200 yard Butterfly.

Brother Sam Long was the standout for the boys side with 72.5 points, highlighted by two second place finishes in consecutive finals races in the 100 yard Backstroke and 200 Yard Butterfly.

One of the bigger surprises for 757swim was the contribution of 12 year old Kaitlyn Sullivan. Not projected by seeding to make any finals or score any
points, Sullivan made 3 finals, and scored 23 points, including a top ten finish in the 500 yard freestyle.

Jacob Vereb added 21 points, with a 10th place finish in the 200 Fly together with several other finals appearances. Noah Fields rounded out the individual scoring on a 10th place finish in the 1650 yard free.

Relay finishes were also key to the victory. The Girls 13-14 Medley relay of Holly Tyranski, Colby Hurt, Sofia Long and Gina Lynch secured a 4th place finish. The Boys 13-14 medley relay of Sam Long, Jacob Vereb, Noah Fields and Ethan Roehrle finished 6th.

“We knew with the weapons we had that we had a chance to gather another state title, but it’s all a little surreal holding this plaque and knowing it’s for real. Our dedication to solid training process and preparation is what got us here, and I couldn’t be happier for all our swimmers for having brought our team to this level of accomplishment.”

757swim offers swim instruction in the Virginia Historic Triangle to swimmers 8&up through its Bronze, Silver and Gold Swim Groups. They are currently accepting swimmers in all age groups, those interested in scheduling a tryout or joining should visit the team’s website at 757swim.com, or email [email protected].

So thrilled 757Swim has been established in the historic triangle of Williamsburg and these results are proof positive that they are doing a great job already with strong process and training regimen. What you don’t see in the results is how incredibly team-focused and fun the team is, it’s not all about winning at States…but it’s awesome nonetheless!!
