Great interview. As a swim fan, it’s been awesome watching Roland compete in local AZ meets. I hope he enjoys London and comes back to train here for another 4 years.

Roland….finally we have a world class athlete articulating a training model that correlates with the races you are going to swim in a meet. (SPECIFICITY of Exercise)

Well Done Garrett!

Great interview Garrett. It’s been awesome being at PSC and watching Roland train, but more importantly watching him interact with the other folks in the Gold group and all of the PSC community. He shows all of them that none if this comes easy and in spite of already being a four time Olympian and winning multiple Olympic medals, he trains as hard if not harder than anyone in that pool day in and day out. Good luck in London my friend, I’ll be cheering for you.

I love watching this guy swim. Unreal that SA actually had to debate whether or not he would swim the 50 free. His analysis of the 400 free relay is spot on, to a T, 100%. Australia in 2000 opened up the possibility of beating the U.S. team to the world and the South Africans believed they could do it in 2004. The Dutch eclipsing America for Silver was also unreal as PVH had one of the most impressive Olympic splits in history to pull them into 2nd. 2008 as we all know may be the greatest overall swim of all time, anywhere, of any swim, ever in history, and only added to the lore that is the 4×100 free relay. As Roland said 2012 should prove to be unreal again as you have the Aussies, French, Americans, Russians, and South Africans all in the hunt for medals. It is country vs. country…the four best men of each…it doesn’t get any better than that in the signature event of the games, the 100 freestyle.

Hey, take your four best 100 freestylers….I’ll take my four best and we’ll see which country is better. Hollywood can’t write a script that good.

Now if only someone could catch the Dutch on the women’s side…
