4x Nebraska State Champ Matthew Novinski Commits to Wisconsin

Matthew Novinski, a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American from Grand Island Central Catholic High School in Grand Island, Nebraska, has verbally committed to the University of Wisconsin for the 2017-18 season.

“The University of Wisconsin-Madison has everything I was looking for in a college and swimming athletic program. Wisconsin has a great campus, academics, and is a rising Big 10 and national men’s swimming program. I am excited to train under head coach, Whitney Hite, and new backstroke coach, Jake Tapp. My goal is to be asset to the team competing in the highly competitive Big 10 conference, but more importantly, hopefully, at the national level.”

Novinski is a four-time Nebraska high school champion in the 100 back and 100 fly. At the 2016 NSAA Swimming Championships he won the 100 back by nearly 2 seconds with 50.14, and the 100 fly by 4/10 with 50.75. Swimming for his club team, Novinski placed fifth in the 200 back and sixth in the 100 back at 2016 YMCA Short Course National Championships. At 2015 Speedo Winter Juniors West he came in 12th in the 100 back. He is a multi-event finalist at NCSAs.

Novinski’s top times include:

  • 50 back: 22.81/26.72
  • 100 back: 48.76/57.59
  • 200 back: 1:47.43
  • 50 free: 21.55/24.92
  • 100 free: 46.56/53.74
  • 200 free: 1:41.91
  • 100 fly: 50.05

He will join North Carolina’s Dylan Boyd, another verbal commit for the Wisconsin class of 2021.

If you have a commitment to report, please send an email to [email protected].

Texas, Cal, Florida, Georgia, Stanford, Michigan, NC State, USC, Indiana aren’t exactly slouches. Top 10 is going to be tough to break into.

And it wasn’t a test against Auburn? They did lose… and they have no chance of beating a team like NC State. Breaking into the top ten is no joke, they’ll need a few really fast classes to do that.
