Holland, Michigan’s Spencer Carl has announced his intention to matriculate at and swim for the University of Louisville beginning in the fall of 2017.

A senior at West Ottawa High School, Carl is the reigning MHSAA Division 1 State Champion in the 200 free (1:37.15, by .01 over Ryan Vander Meulen) and 100 fly (48.12). He also swam fly (21.81) on the medley relay and anchored the 400 free relay (44.99).
Carl swims year-round with Michigan Lakeshore Aquatics. He was an A-finalist in both the 100m fly (sixth, 54.73) and 200m fly (fifth, 2:01.27) at the 2016 Speedo Junior Nationals; and in the 100y fly (seventh, 48.62) and 200y fly (sixth, 1:47.63) at the 2015 Speedo Juniors East. His top times are:

Carl will be part of the Louisville class of 2021 along with fellow-commits Michael Hampel and Nick Albiero.
Carl explained to SwimSwam, “One of the main reasons I began looking at their program (besides their interest in me) was that my high school assistant coach swam there. I knew they were a program to watch out for especially this spring at NCAAs and now in the future for sure.”
