Kicking off is the 500 freestyle which will see a new champion tonight. After helping Stanford to an NCAA title last night in the relay, Aurora Roghair swam to a 4:34.87 this morning and will swim out of lane five. Jillian Cox of Texas entered the meet as the top seed and will be on the other side of Peplowski tonight.

Stanford’s Torri Huske posted a fast 50 free split last night on the 200 medley relay and swam the top time in prelims with a 1:51.53 200 IM. Huske will look to win her first individual NCAA title. Huske swam next to Lea Polonsky of Cal this morning and the two will match up again tonight after Polonsky dropped over a second posting a 1:51.91 to be the #2 seed.

Emma Sticklen of Texas had never broken the 1:54 mark prior to this season and swam another best time in prelims with a 1:52.11. Virginia’s Alex Walsh has the chance to defend her title tonight after swimming the 4th fastest time of the morning with a 1:52.37.

The 50 freestyle concludes the individual portion of the session as Gretchen Walsh takes the top seed after posting a 20.44 this morning. She has been as fast as 20.37 which she swam at last year’s NCAA final. Louisville’s Julia Dennis also returns to the ‘A’ final and is the #2 seed with a 21.25.

The 200 free relay will close the night as Virginia enters as the top seed and favorites in the event. Virginia is the #1 seed ahead of Louisville by over a second. Both teams placed numerous swimmers in the ‘A’ final of the individual 50 as Walsh, Claire Curzan, and Maxine Parker are in the 50 free ‘A’ final for Virginia while Dennis and Gabi Albiero are in the ‘A’ final for Louisville.

I’ve been looking forward to watching this meet all season, and now I’ve been stuck flying to/from somewhere for work during both finals sessions!
