The 2024 Summer FGC Age Group Championships took place from July 11-14 at the Sailfish Splash Water Park in Stuart, Florida.

On the girls’ side, 13-year-old Jianna Amores delivered a spectacular performance, winning both the 100 and 200 butterfly. She clocked an impressive 2:19.25 in the 200 butterfly, the fastest time this year among all 13-year-olds in the country, and her 1:02.41 in the 100 butterfly is the second fastest nationwide.

12-year-old Wendy La Pietra from Swim Fort Lauderdale won 5 individual events: the 100 butterfly, 200 IM, 200 freestyle, 400 freestyle, and 1500 freestyle, and was the runner-up in the 400 IM. She shaved 18 seconds off her previous best in the 1500, setting a new personal best of 18:36.38. This performance ranks her 8th in the country this year for her age group.

14-year-old backstroker Laila Harran from South Florida Aquatic Club won the 100 and 200 backstroke in the 13-14 age group. She shaved more than three seconds off her seed time of 2:29.21, finishing with an impressive 2:25.86.

14-year-old Veronica Metz from Wahoos of Wellington swept the IMs, winning both the 200 and 400 IM. She dropped over 2 seconds to achieve a new lifetime best of 2:24.73 in the 200 IM and won the 400 IM by five seconds with a new best time of 5:08.69.

On the boys’ side, the meet kicked off with a thrilling showdown between 11-year-olds Lucas Barnard and Janiel Espinosa in the 1500 freestyle. The swim ended in a tie, with both boys clocking in at 18:44.10, securing them the 2nd-fastest time in the country this year among all 11-year-olds. Barnard improved by 33 seconds from his previous best time, while Espinosa improved by an impressive 43 seconds.

Janiel also posted a new personal best in the 100 butterfly finishing second with a time of 1:08.35, dropping 2 seconds and becoming the 4th fastest performer this year among 11-year-olds.

12-year-old Javier Massot from Metro Aquatic Club of Miami swept his individual events, winning the 50 butterfly, 100 butterfly, 100 breaststroke, 200 IM, 400 IM, and 400 freestyle. Notably, he dropped over 6 seconds from his previous best in the 400 freestyle, clocking a 4:38.03 to win the race by 6 seconds.

14-year-old Mikail Cherepanov from Bravo Swimming had an outstanding meet, clinching victories in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke. He cut over four seconds off his previous best in the 100 breaststroke, finishing with a time of 1:08.52, and made an impressive 15-second improvement in the 200 breaststroke, with a time of 2:28.26.

13-year-old Trace Colton from North Palm Beach Swim Club won the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 400 freestyle, and 100 butterfly. He ranks 2nd in the country this year, leading off the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 24.80, and 3rd in the 100 freestyle, 100 butterfly, and 200 freestyle with times of 54.99, 59.11, and 1:59.76, respectively.

Other Notable Swims:

• Jenna Baldwin dropped 51 seconds in the 1500 freestyle to win with a time of 18:15.93 in the 13-14 age group.
• Christie Ann Lumsden dropped 3 seconds to win the girls’ 11-12 100 breaststroke.
• Colby Metzger improved by 22 seconds in the 1500, finishing second in the 13-14 age group.
• Jeancarlos Vasquez shaved off 4 seconds from his best time in the 100 backstroke to win the 11-12 age group.
• Andres De Angulo won the 100 and 200 backstroke in the 13-14 age group with new best times of 1:02.55 and 2:15.07, respectively.
