After posting the top time in the 100 breast this morning, Alpha Aquatics’ Gabrielle Rose has scratched the final. The 46-year-old went 32.0/36.6 in heats to lead the field by .51, only .34 off her entry time. That will move the #9 qualifier, Mary Elizabeth Cespedes (1:10.66) of Valparaiso Swim Club into the A Final and #17 Bianca Nwaizu (1:11.23), from the home team Irvine Novaquatics, into lane 8 of the B Final. Nwaizu and A-finalist Grace Koenig-Song of NASA Wildcats (7th, 1:10.16) are both 14 years old.
Scarlet Aquatics’ Kate Hurst, who posted the 16th time (2:19.00) in heats of the 200 fly, dropped out of the B Final. She will be replaced by Santa Clara Swim Club’s Davina Huang, who qualified 17th (2:19.03). Hurst’s teammate Kathleen Turano also scratched the 200 fly final after adding 4.5 seconds to finish 26th (2:22.28) this morning. Both Hurst and Turano are in the fastest heat of women’s 800 free in tonight’s final.
In the men’s meet, there were no scratches among the top-16 qualifiers in either the 200 fly or the 100 breast.

If you get selected for a test after a race and you scratch, do you still have to take the test? Asking for a friend.
Is there ever a case of someone picking up swimming late and still becoming elite? (Is that possible?)
All these cases like Gabrielle Rose seem like they had a good foundation when they were younger.
Define ‘late’?
She’s on the psych sheets for Sacramento Futures too…
100 breast on Thurs.
Any word on why?
started training for LA28
Does seem weird
