2016 Women’s NCAA Swimming Championships: Day 2 Scoring Update

2016 WOMEN’S NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

After coming away with a big win last night in the 800 free relay, the Georgia Bulldogs kept the momentum going with the best morning session of all teams earlier today.  Thanks to big jumps from their relays, as well as Olivia Smoliga claiming the top seed in the 50 free, Georgia picked up 47 points on their seeds today.  They’ll look to officially close a portion of the 100+ point gap between themselves and the top-seeded Cal Bears.

Cal got some nice swims in the 200 IM (putting three in the A-final), but slipped up in the 400 medley relay, which will likely cost them around 10 points tonight, as their best possible finish is 9th place.

The biggest movers on the session:

  • Trending up:
    • Georgia Bulldogs: +47 points
    • Missouri Tigers: +22
    • Arizona Wildcats: +16.67
    • Tennessee Volunteers: +10.67
  • Trending down:
    • Cal Golden Bears: -25 points
    • NC State Wolfpack: -24
    • Virginia Cavaliers: -24
    • Texas A&M: -17.5
    • Texas Longhorns: -10
    • UNC Tar Heels: -10

Below is a full scoring update coming out of the Thursday preliminary session.  We’ve also included each teams’ psych sheet scoring to better represent how each particular team is performing relative to their seeds.  The final column shows–if seedings hold tonight–what each team’s new projected final score would be.
