2016 NSW State Age 13-18 Champs Day 4 Highlights

What a night of racing! Our young stars shone with many close and hard fought races.

 

The evening kicked off with our 17-18 Years 100m Butterfly. Brooke Mindham, Emily Waddington and Brittany Barnes rounded out the top 3 in the women’s event. Alston Jeroff, Andrew Hemsworth and Nicholas Sonntagwon their place on the medal dais for the men’s race.

 

Olivia Adams had a great swim in the 200m Freestyle to claim the state title. Emily Racki claimed 2nd place withChloe Yoo swimming a solid race to achieve 3rd. Zachary Attard secured the boys title in a time of 1:51.91 withEthan Dorrian and Jacob Sansom duelling it out for 2nd and 3rd placing.

 

Abbey Webb of Tuggeranong Vikings continued her winning form to take out the girls 14 Years 50m Freestyle in a time of 26.58. Mariah Moshovis and Maddie Wunsch fought a tough race to the wall with impressive times. Not much separated the boys in their race down the pool. Angus McDonald triumphed in a time of 24.95, Nick Jennensheld strong to take silver in 25.01, with The Hills’ Alex Quach claiming 3rd in 25.03.

 

The 15 Years 100m Backstroke had a gripping finish with Courtney Taylor touching out Castle Hill’s Sienna McDonald and closely followed by Katie Strachan. Leon MacAlister swam a sensational 100m Backstroke in a time of 57.02, taking almost 0.5 off his heat time. Woy Woy’s Myles Bailey finished in an impressive 58.22, with Ravenswood’s Lewis Blackburn rounding out the top three in this event.

 

The 13 Years girls shined in the 200m Butterfly with fine performances from SLC Aquadot’s Jessica Madden to claim the victory in a time well under her morning preliminary swim. Kiera Warn and Rosie Oldham dug deep and fought it out for 2nd and 3rd. Dominic Lopez and Cooper Ritchie had a great battle throughout the race. Dominic had a little more in the tank to bring home to claim the gold. 3rd and 4th position was also well fought between Zayne Morphew-Watson and Connor Brackin with Connor touching the wall in 3rd place.

 

A big congratulations to Eilish Salmon for taking charge in the 17-18 Years 200m Individual Medley. 2nd and 3rdwas yet again an incredible tussle into the wall between Sheridan Smith and Gabriella Spajic team mates from Sans Souci Sea Devils. The boys 200m Individual Medley was a crowd pleaser with a nail gripping contest between Mingara’s Lachlan Vane-Tempest and Abbotsleigh’s Matt Kelly. 0.04 separated gold and silver placings with Lachlan taking the state title. Matt Pender touched in 3rd place to join the boys on the medal dais.

 

Jacinta Essam continued her winning streak to take out the 14 Years 400m Freestyle ahead of Willoughby’s Emily Doyle and Jacinta’s Tuggeranong Vikings team mate Abbey Webb. Nick Jennens was unwavering as he claimed the title in a time of 4:09.62 whilst being challenged by Se-Bom Lee and Alan Paradzik.

 

Bec Cross showed her might in the 16 Years 200m Breaststroke, walking away with the top spot in a time of 2:37.00. Hannah Baldwin from Willoughby and Francesca Fitzhenry of Trinity Grammar brought home the race with heart. Trinity Grammar’s Nathan Zhu showed incredible style and haste in the boys 200m Breaststroke with an impressive race finishing in 2:19.28. Aiden Jackson and Jasen Yu both swam great races.

 

Sienna McDonald claimed her second title of the meet in the girls 15 Years 400m Individual Medley in a close race with Brooke Morgan and Darian Quadrio.  Carlile’s Tom Lockhart took home a big win in the boys 400m Individual Medley in a time of 4:41.15. Nicholas Miller held strong and finished in 2nd place, while Nicholas Hardsof NC Aquatic had a solid final 50m to stay ahead of Shaye Booth.

 

The 13 Year girls 100m Freestyle was certainly a crowd pleaser. The field was extremely tight as they passed through the first 50m. Bindi Ware and Kayla Holmes emerged in the final 30m to battle it out for the title. Bindi triumphed 0.25 seconds ahead of Kayla to claim the gold. Claudia Neale from Glenbrook rounded out the medallists for this great race. The boys also had a nail biting finish with Gabriel Gorgas, Jack Benson and Cooper Ritchierising to claim the top 3 places, 0.09 seconds separating 1st and 3rd.

 

The final individual events of the session were the 14 Years 100m Breaststroke. The race again was an incredibly close battle between Mariah Moshovis, Caitlin Walsh and Kelsey Otto. Finn O’Connor proved too strong in the boys event with Nathan Ward and Daniel Kucheruk digging deep to determine the remaining placings.

 

The Swimmer of the Session was awarded to Leon MacAlister for his 100m Backstroke swim.

 

The 4 x 200m Freestyle Relays were a joy to watch with Ravenswood claiming gold, The Hills claiming silver andCherrybrook Carlile claiming bronze in the girls event. The boys event was won in incredible style by Cherrybrook Carlile, with Carlile securing silver and Wests Illawarra grabbing bronze. A great effort to all teams!
