#18 Recruit Levi Sandidge Verbally Commits to Kentucky (2022)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Levi Sandidge, who finished 3rd at the 2021 Texas High School State Championship meet in the 500 free, has verbally committed to the University of Kentucky.

Sandidge is a rising senior at Richardson High School in suburban Dallas, Texas. He trains with the City of Richardson Swim Team.

He is the #18-ranked recruit in the high school class of 2022 and second-best distance freestyler behind only Liam Custer.

A swimmer on the younger end of his class, at the NCSA Championships last spring he was still only 16 years old. At that meet, he swam 8:59.87 in the 1000 free and 14:57.96 in the 1650 free. Those times both rank him in the top 10 all-time in 15-16 age group history.

Primarily a distance swimmer, at the moment the 400 IM projects to be his 3rd event as compared to the 200 free.

Best Times in Yards:

  • 200 free – 1:43.89
  • 500 free – 4:25.76
  • 1000 free – 8:59.87
  • 1650 free – 14:57.96
  • 200 IM – 1:53.57
  • 400 IM – 3:53.21

The 1000 free is neither an SEC Championship event nor an NCAA Championship event at the D1 level.

University of Kentucky head coach Lars Jorgensen is best known as a distance freestyler as well, and that’s unsurprisingly an area where the Kentucky men have excelled. Last season, their 60 points in the mile at the SEC Championships was the team’s highest point total in a swimming event (they did score more in all three diving events). The Wildcats finished 7th out of 10 teams in the conference last season.

While the women’s team won a historic first SEC Championship

Sandidge comes in with a best time almost 2 seconds faster than the school record in the 1000 free. His best time in the mile would rank him 2nd in school history.

Sandidge is at least the 5th public commitment in the Wildcats’ class of 2022, joining Brady McInerneyLogan IngerickLogan Smith, and Ryan Merani.
