While competing on the final night of the 2023 Swim Open Stockholm, 16-year-old Eneli Jefimova established a new Estonian national record in the women’s 100m breaststroke.
Jefimova stopped the clock in a time of 1:06.36 to take the gold, getting to the wall just under half a second ahead of Sophie Hansson. Hansson of the host nation settled for silver in 1:06.85 while Finland’s Ida Hulkko rounded out the top 3 in 1:08.32.
Jefimova opened in 31.11 and closed in 35.25 to fire off a new personal best, overtaking her previous Estonian standard put up 2 years ago when she was just 14 years of age. It was at the 2021 European Championships where she logged a time of 1:06.47 in the semi-finals to write her name into the record books.
The teen’s time this evening easily clears the 1:07.35 World Aquatics ‘A’ standard needed for this summer’s World Championships. Jefimova now ranks 8th in the world on the season.
