Wales Announces 23, Led by Lowe, Davies, and Carlin, for 2014 Commonwealth Games

23 swimmers have been named to the Welsh swimming roster for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland: 7 preselected from results of last year’s World Championships and U.S. Open, and the other 16 from British Nationals and the Cardiff International meet over the last month.

Wales returns all four medals from swimming at the 2010 Commonwealth Games that put them 8th on the medals table. Jazz Carlin, who won silver and bronze; Georgia Davies, who scored a bronze in the 50 back; and Jemma Lowe, who took bronze in the 100 fly.

As for their 2014 prospects, Carlin will come in as the favorite in the 800 free, and a heavy medal contender in the 400 free as well. Lowe was resurgent over the weekend in Monaco, with the best swims we’ve seen from her in years, and Davies is in her competitive prime.

The other preselected swimmers were Thomas Haffield, Robert Holderness, Ieuan Lloyd, and Marco Loughran.

The swimming competition runs from July 23rd-29th in Glasgow, Scotland.
