NCAP’s Annie Boone Makes Verbal Commitment to Auburn Tigers

A day after receiving a verbal bid from SwimMAC’s Jessica Merritt, the Auburn Tigers nabbed another big name: NCAP’s Annie Boone. Boone is a two-event 2016 Olympic Trials qualifier (100/200m back) and a four-time Virginia State 4A High School Champion. Swimming for Eastern View High School, Boone won the 100 back and 200 IM in both her sophomore and junior years.

Boone trains under Coach Jeremy Linn at Nation’s Capital Swim Club. Her most successful meet this year was the NCSA Spring Championships, where she achieved her best long course times of the season and her first 2016 Trials cut in the 200 backstroke (she made the Trials cut in the 100 last summer). Based on her results at the spring meet, Boone was invited onto the NCSA team that competed at the Irish National Open, where she finished second in the 200 back. Her best times over the last two seasons are:

  SCY LCM
50 back 25.27 29.71
100 back 53.73 1:02.86
200 back 1:56.08 2:13.73
200 IM 2:02.87 2:22.69
400 IM 4:20.66 5:04.00
100 fly 56.26 1:04.78

Auburn’s top backstrokers at 2015 SEC Championships are both seniors this year (Jillian Vitarius and Sarah Reynolds) so Boone will not overlap with them. Her best 200 back time would have made the “B” final with both Vitarius and Reynolds, while her 100 back would have scored in the “C” final (Reynolds made the “B” and Vitarius, the “A”).

A two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American, Boone told SwimSwam, “I choose Auburn for the family feel.  From the moment I met the team, I knew Auburn was where I wanted to be!  I loved the team, the coaches and all the athletic facilities.”
