After initially not planning to live stream the 2015 Junior World Swimming Championships in Singapore, FINA has begun to explore live streaming options.
According to Peter Hall, FINA’s head of marketing and TV, the organization is “putting a live stream solution together for the finals which will be on FINAtv or FINA’s YouTube channel.”
Late last week, the Singapore Swimming Association said that there would be no live stream, but they too posted an update to their social media accounts about FINA’s change of heart early Monday morning.
The meet will run from August 25th – August 30th in a prelims-finals format, for male swimmers aged 15-18 and female swimmers aged 14-17, based on year-end 2015 ages.
FINAtv has been used to live-stream the World Cup meets, though those live streams have been geographically blocked in many countries, including the United States.

Stream is running. Pool is busy.
Sound up, but video is now just a blurry pool image.
Do they think most people are tuning in too see only the action versus just looking to spot friends/kids/grandkids on deck or warming up?
FINA TV now has a test stream up and an countdown for 6 hours (at 3pm eastern). That would mean stream starts at 9am Singapore time with heats starting at 10am. They are supposed to have some sort of opening ceremony, but don’t know how elaborate.
What time do prelims and finals start in EST?
Siri says: 10am in Singapore is 10pm on East coast and 6pm in Singapore is 6am on East coast.
Yup, 12 hours ahead of east coast time in the United States.
The fina rule that says a swimmer isn’t eligible if they turn 19 during that year is also dumb.
Does anyone see the World Junior records as arbitrary considering they won’t go back before 2014?
Especially the men’s records.
The records should be:
50 Dressel 21.52
100 Santana 48.2
200 Phelps 1:45.99
400 Thorpe 3:43
1500 Horton 14:48
50 Back Rylov 25.0
100 Back Murphy 53.3
200 Back Conger 1:55.1
50 Breast Stevens 27.7
100 Breast Yamaguchi 59.8
200 Breast Yamaguchi 2:07.1
50 fly Sedover 23.28
100 fly Phelps 51.10
200 fly Phelps 1:53.93
200 IM Phelps 1:55.92
400 IM Phelps 4:09.09
Alec Hagino would be the JWR on 400 IM with his 4:08:92 from London
Sedov would be the 50 with his 21,98.. Dressel will be 19 this year so he is not eligible
200 free Textile would be Thorpe 1:45:37, with Suits would be Izotov
400 free Thorpe 3:40:59
800 free Horton
1500 Textile Horton with Suits Yang (14:46)
200 back would be Hagino textile and Irie with suits (1:54:7)
Thanks. I was just going by memory. I just see the only recognizing times post 2014 as arbitrary as well as the birth year rule. If you are 18 you are 18.
Guys, come on. Don’t be so darned demanding. FINA is busy:
(1) Fixing the water quality problem in Rio.
(2) Investigating and sanctioning the Mexican federation for their time falsification scandal.
(3) Investigating why they held on to Kylie Palmer’s positive sample for so long.
(4) Putting together all those documents for an independent third-party audit.
(5) Re-electing the same cronies for life…
Well, I got one for five right.
D
Ouch! LOL LOL LOL Classic, Dave. Absolutely classic! 🙂 Loved it.
Now us Americans will just have to keep our fingers crossed that NBC-Universal Sports won’t exercise their regional broadcast rights and block the live streaming in the US of A.
Wasn’t fun for the Moscow & Chartres WC series.
Spieker Backer – NBC/US doesn’t own the rights to Junior Worlds or the FINA World Cup Series this year.
On Fina’s website under FINA TV it says that highlights will be streamed live each day from 1700-1715 GMT which is noon eastern. http://www.eurovisionsports.tv/fina/index.html
Finals are at 6am eastern. How is showing a 15 minute highlight video 4 hours after finals are over live streaming?!?! I hope this is in addition to an actual live stream but there is no indication on FINA’s website that they will live stream the event.
FINA changed the stream details on their website. Now it says it will be streamed live, it doesn’t say highlights anymore. The start time for Tuesday is 12:00 GMT which is still not live and TBC GMT for all of the other days.
They finally read what swimswam fans wanted and asked for !!! well done
I wouldn’t count your chickens yet. So far, all they’ve officially announced is the highlights package on FINATV.
Ok i take my chicken back ! LOL
