Distance Standout Ally Schultz Commits To Boise State University

Canyon Aquatics distance standout Ally Schultz has given her verbal commitment to Boise State University to represent the Broncos.

Schultz is one of the best middle/long distance swimmers to ever come out of Canyon Aquatics, breaking several team records in her career.

Canyons head coach Coley Stickels  believes that Schultz will be a great addition to the Broncos, “She has been consistently getting better each year and has the work ethic and attitude to contribute in a big way.”

Schultz’s best events come in the 200 freestyle and up which is why she’s valued very highly. With a solid 1:51.27 200 freestyle, Schultz is close to cracking the top 10 all time list at BSU already without having even started her freshman year.

Just like in the 200, she’s just a few seconds shy of making her way into the all time top 10 list in the 500, 1000, and 1650 freestyles as well.

Schultz will have a major impact in the distance events as the majority of BSU’s distance swimmers graduated following the 2014-15 season or are currently in their senior year. BSU will be losing both Blake Balogh and Taylor Padington following this year leaving Amelia Draney as one of the only distance swimmers to stay with the Broncos for the 2016-17 season.

Schultz will likely find a good training partner in Padington who boasts times similar to what Schultz is currently swimming.

With the absence of a few of the BSU stars next season, Schultz could also likely find her way on the 4×200 freestyle relay if she’s able to take a bit of time off her individual 200 free. She will likely need to go a 1:48 or 1:49 to grab the fourth relay position.

Schultz’s Best Times

  • 200 Free- 1:51.27
  • 500 Free – 4:56.08
  • 1000 Free – 10:15.67
  • 1650 Free – 17:06.41

Swimmer TO do you give any thought to how your comments might make the athlete you so insensitively post under feel? This is an exciting time for these athletes and all your comments do is take away from that. If you have issue with what SwimSwam posts or take issue with their procedure, that should be addressed outside an athlete’s story. Please be more respectful.

If the post starts with or ends with the phrase “just saying” the poster is likely a moron. Just sayin’.

Clubs most likely are the one’s posting these articles to swim swan and from what I’ve seen there are a lot of them in regards to college commits. I’m guessing the clubs want to boast when one of their swimmers commits to college? Heck, good publicity for a club and why not pump up kids who’ve worked hard and make it into a swim program at college!

Maybe swimmerTO, you should be looking at why no one did that for your example swimmer and stop being a troll!

Hello Grant, and the rest.

Swimmers, their clubs, and their parents submit commitments to us. 99.9% of them are written by our staff. We endeavor to report on every commitment sent to us, though with around 40-50 coming in each day at the peak of the year, we do prioritize.

Sebastian never made a verbal commitment to Harvard via SwimSwam. A verbal commitment is totally non-binding, and is just a matter of an athlete saying what they intend to do, so unless they verbally tell us what they’re doing, there’s literally nothing for us to report. Those who we don’t report usually get caught when we post the “full-class” lists that school’s signed us once everyone is signed and/or enrolled.… Read more »

Not to sound like a troll or anything here, but… Why is this an article? My congratulations are extended to Ms. Schultz, but Swimswam’s criteria for choosing whom they write articles about are highly misguided. For instance, articles were/are being written about people who don’t even have winter juniors cuts, and then people like Sebastian Lutz (2 time YMCA national champion and Olympic Trials qualifier who committed to Harvard last year) don’t even get an article.
Just sayin…

It’s my understanding that articles are based on submissions to Swimswam from the individual swimmer or the school.

Swimmer Thieroff – you lost me at “troll,” because that’s literally exactly what you are.

If you’re so much smarter, go start a website, and write all about Sebastian Lutz and your other friends.

As it turns out, SS can’t magically conjure up information. Put two-and-two together: you see how many commitments they report, seems pretty clear that your boy never made a verbal commitment to SS. I’m sure he was included in Harvard’s release.

But, thanks for saving the internet from running out of room. Good looking out.

Signed,
