Breaststroker Jerik Wong Stays Local; Commits to Texas A&M

Flower Mound High School and Lakeside Aquatic Club’s Jerik Wong will swim for the Texas A&M Aggies next fall.

Wong, a breaststroke specialist, has best times of 55.92 in the 100 and 2:03.79 in the 200. Notably, he dropped over 1.5 seconds in the 100 and over four seconds in the 200 in just one year’s time, and finished 2nd at the 2015 Texas 6A (big school) state championship meet in the 100.

The Aggies had a huge freshman class last year (fourteen strong!), and they will only lose three seniors going into next season. A big year from freshman Mauro Castillo last season ended with a school record in the 200 breaststroke (1:55.65), and he also punched in the Aggies’ top time of the season in the 100 (53.78). The Aggies also had Jonathan Tybur and Gonzalo Carazo just get under the 2:00 mark in the 200, though neither broke 55 seconds in the 100.

Tybur and Carazo were also freshmen last year, and Wong’s current best in the 100 breast would’ve put him at third on the Aggies top times list. He will strengthen a young team with an even younger breaststroke core.

Wong will be teammates with other Aggies commits Connor Long and John Holler this upcoming fall.

I don’t mean to offend anybody, but FLOWER MOUND High School?! In TEXAS?! REALLY?!

I would hate to be a football player from that school!!! 😉

Danjohnrob – it’s actually the name of a whole town, 65,000 people. The original high school is Marcus High School, and Flower Mound is the newer of the two. Ironically….their football team has never been very good, though their basketball team got to the state championship game once. They’ve put a few players into the NFL though.

Thanks, Braden! I still think they could have named it after a famous person or come up with something a little less feminine. Laseside High School would have sounded a LOT better IMO!

Anyway, I forgot to add my congratulations and best wishes for Mr Wong, which was the point of this article! 🙂
