THE WESTPORT WESTON FAMILY YMCA’S WATER RATS SWIM TEAM SENDS 33 CARE PACKAGES TO SOLDIERS IN AFGANASTAIN TO HELP SPREAD SOME CHEER THIS HOLIDAY SEASON.

On Monday, December 19 the Westport Weston Family YMCA Water Rat swimmers and their parents made care packages for soldiers stationed in Afghanistan.  The care packages included donated items in addition to holiday cards and ornaments the swimmers made.  The boxes were shipped to a unit of soldiers who are deployed and will not have the opportunity to spend the holidays with their families this year.

“This is a project very near and dear to my heart as one of my former swimmers is currently deployed and will not be home for the holidays.  All the care packages that our swimmers put together were shipped to her unit and I know the items included will be greatly appreciated by the soldiers this Holiday Season. “said Scott VanKuilenburg, Head Age Group Coach, Water Rats Swimming.

The care packages included not only handmade surprises but toiletries, snacks and hand warmers, all the items that individuals stateside take for granted.  The Water Rat swimmers and parents involved had a wonderful time putting the packages together and look forward to holding a similar event next year.
