Yale Women, Penn Men Go 2-0 In Tri-Meet With Dartmouth

HANOVER, N.H. – It was a strong start to the 2024 portion of the schedule for the Yale women’s swimming and diving team. The Bulldogs cruised to a 228.50-71.50 victory over Penn and a 226-74 win over host Dartmouth.

In improving its overall record to 6-0 and Ivy mark to 4-0, Yale set four Karl Michael Pool records – the 200 medley relay team of Alex MasseyAva FranksVivian Weng and Caroline McCurdy in 1:43.01, Caroline Riggs in the 1,000 freestyle (10:00.94) and both Jessey Li (1:00.97) and Ava Franks (1:02.78) in the 100 breaststroke.

Li won two other individual events – the 50 freestyle (23.27) and the 200 breaststroke (2:16.94).

Massey won the 200 butterfly (2:02.54) and the 200 backstroke (2:02.91) and Riggs also captured the 500 freestyle (4:56.71).

Other winners for Yale were Quinn Murphy in the 100 backstroke (57.08), Weng in the 200 freestyle (1:52.33), Junseo Kim in the 100 butterfly (56.56) and Franks in the 200 IM (2:04.38).

In the 1-meter diving, the Bulldogs had the top two finishers – Genevieve Thibodeau (266.05) and Lily Horenkamp (257.50).

Yale is right back in action against Cornell early next week at Kiphuth Pool. The diving events are Monday at 3 p.m. and swimming is set for Tuesday at 4 p.m.

HANOVER, N.H. – The Yale men’s swimming and diving team split a tri-meet with Dartmouth and Penn on Saturday. The Bulldogs beat Dartmouth 224-76 but fell to Penn 156-144.

Yale had a strong showing in the diving. In the 3-meter Nicholas Chau (327.50) finished first followed by Maks Sawoniewicz (325.05). The Bulldogs also went 1-2 in the 1-meter with Jean Paul Ditto (316.90) winning followed by Kevin Bradley (287.15).

In the swimming, Deniel Nankov won both the 100 (45.58) and 200 (1:40.40) freestyles. Charlie Egeland captured the 200 breaststroke in 2:00.60. The 200 medley relay team of Nankov, Egeland, Marcus Hodgson and Lucius Brown finished first with a time of 1:30.20.

The Bulldogs are right back in action on Monday when they take on Cornell at Kiphuth Pool. The swimming events begin at 11 a.m. followed by the diving at 3 p.m.

HANOVER, N.H. – The University of Pennsylvania women’s swimming and diving team earned its first Ivy victory of the season on Saturday, defeating host Dartmouth, 157-143. The Quakers fell to Yale, 228.5-71.5.

Victories were difficult to come by, but Penn finished on the podium in seven races while four Quakers picked up second-place finishes.

*Anna Kalandadze earned a second-place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle, swimming a time of 10:04.74. She was followed closely by Sydney Bergstrom (10:14.79) in third and Maggie Straley (10:25.72) in fourth.

*In the 200-yard butterfly, Vanessa Chong finished second with a time of 2:04.17. She also placed second in the 100 fly (56.58).

*Katya Eruslanova led a Penn freshman contingent of 2-3-4 finishers with a time of 2:03.18 in the 200-yard backstroke. Charlotte Holliday took third (2:03.94) while Kate Levensten came in fourth (2:05.03).

*Levensten also placed third in the 100 back with a time of 57.70.

*Margot Kaczorowski led the Quakers with a third-place finish in the 100 free (52.76).

*Amelia Girotto finished in third place in the 500 free (5:03.64).

*On the boards, Sophie Slayden took sixth in the one-meter dive (234.50) and seventh in the three-meter dive (232.90).

HANOVER, N.H. – The University of Pennsylvania men’s swimming and diving team took care of business on Saturday afternoon, sweeping the competition with wins over host Dartmouth (215-84) and Yale (156-144) to improve to 4-2 against Ivy foes this season.

The standout was sophomore Matthew Fallon, winner of three races, while the Quakers totaled eight victories to swim past the Big Green and Bulldogs.

*After a month off following his U.S. Open gold medal in Greensboro, Fallon got back to work and reeled off three victories. He swam a pool-record time of 53.92 in the 100-yard breaststroke, a 4:33.33 in the 500-yard freestyle and a time of 1:50.04 in the 200-yard individual medley.

*Kevin Keil showed his prowess on distance, taking home the win in the 1000 free (9:32.86). Truman Armstrong finished third with a time of 9:36.10.

*James Curreri emerged victorious in the 100-yard backstroke, clocking in at 50.28.

*Andrew Dai timed in at 1:49.83 to earn the win in the 200-yard butterfly. He also claimed a victory in the 100 fly (49.37), just barely beating out teammate Ben Feldman (49.42).

*Feldman beat out a trio of Bulldogs to take home the win in the 50 free (20.71).

*The Quakers took care of things in the 200 free relay as the quartet of Alex FuLiam Campbell, Dai and Feldman swam a pool-record time of 1:21.41 to finish first.

*With Campbell, Fallon, Dai and Feldman, the 200 medley relay swam to a second-place finish (1:30.75).

*Campbell also swam a 45.95 to take second in the 100 free.

*Daniel Gallagher took second place in the 200 back (1:49.44).

*Swimming without Fallon in the field, Jason Schreiber stepped up with a second-place finish in the 200 breast (2:01.02).

*On the boards, Cody Hopkins tallied a pair of podium finishes in the one-meter (286.55) and three-meter (318.65) dives to take third place.

HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth women’s swimming and diving team, coming off last weekend’s win over Bates, nearly notched an Ivy League victory on Saturday at Karl Michael Pool, but fell to both Penn (157-143) and Yale (226-74).

“To be close with Penn while down some scoring members of our roster for this meet due to sickness shows that our women are stepping up and getting more competitive,” said head coach Milana Socha. “We’ve still got some work to do in the next couple meets to make sure we will be able to fight at our best level come championships.”

The Big Green notched plenty of victories over the Quakers, including both diving events. Maggie Lambdin earned an outright win on the 3-meter board with a score of 291.05. Lambdin and Alexa Kalish bested Penn on the 1-meter board as well.

First-year Kathy Jia accounted for multiple wins over Penn, topping the Quakers in the 100 breast (1:04.98), 200 breast (2:21.85) and 200 IM (2:06.03). Jia was also a member of the 200 medley relay team, along with Jamieson LeghLane Murray and Samantha Li, which defeated Penn with a time of 1:46.10 and was second only to the first-place Yale squad. A 200 free relay team of Carinn Bethea, Li, Legh and Murray also picked up a win over Penn, placing second at 1:36.08.

Bethea earned a win of her own, beating Penn in the 50 free after recording a time of 24.45 seconds. Legh turned in a strong performance in the 200 fly, placing third (second against both Yale and Penn) with a time of 2:05.11.

The Big Green are back at Karl Michael Pool for a third straight weekend beginning on Friday, Jan. 19 for the start of the two-day Tate Ramsden Invitational.

HANOVER, N.H. — Returning to Ivy League competition after last weekend’s victory over Bates, the Dartmouth men’s swimming and diving team fell to both Yale (224-76) and Penn (215-84) on Saturday at Karl Michael Pool.

“We had a pretty solid showing coming off a challenging training block,” said head coach Milana Socha. “Continuing to learn how to bring the fight when we are fatigued and holding on to good technical details will be key for us in the last few meets of the regular season.”

The Big Green went 1-2 over Penn in the 200 free thanks to Isaac Weigel, who placed second overall with a time of 1:40.51, and Tim Park, who was third at 1:40.75. Yan Dvoretskiy gave Dartmouth a win over Yale in the 200 fly, placing second with a time of 1:50.05.

Dartmouth earned a pair of top-three finishes in the 200 medley relay and the 200 free relay. Colton RasmussenAlexander YeAdam Ladman and Park compiled a time of 1:31.65 in the 200 medley relay, and Rasmussen, Weigel, Ye and Park swam a 1:21.57 in the 200 free relay. Rasmussen and Ye had top-three finishes of their own in the 100 free and the 200 breast, respectively.

The Big Green are back in action at Karl Michael Pool for a third straight weekend, beginning on Friday, Jan. 19 when the two-day Tate Ramsden Invitational begins.
