Madison, Wisconsin, native Dee Dee Walker, has committed to swim at Illinois State beginning in the fall of 2020.
Walker won the 500 free (5:04.88) and was the runnerup in the 200 free (1:53.31) at the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Girls Division 2 State Championship in November. She also was a part of Madison Edgewood High School’s state champion 200 free relay and 400 free relay teams.
In 2017, Walker was part of the state record setting 200 free relay team (1:35.26) and state champion 400 free relay. Individually, she was runnerup in the 200 free (1:54.57) and finished third in the 500 free (5:10.61).
In 2016, Walker was a member of Edgewood’s first place 200 free relay team. She also placed eighth in the 200 free (1:59.03) and ninth in the 500 free (5:23.90).
“I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to study and swim at Illinois State University,” Walker said. “I chose Illinois State University because of the amazing academics and athletics that the school had to offer! The ISU coaches and team were very welcoming towards me which made this decision very easy. It was the perfect fit for me and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for me at ISU! I would like to thank everyone that has helped me along the way!! I would also to thank Coach Caitlin and Coach Josh for giving me this amazing opportunity! Go Redbirds.”
Walker also competes for the Badger Aquatic Club.

Walker’s top time in the 200 free would have ranked third on the 2018-19 Illinois State roster in 2018-19 behind junior Katie Tillotson (1:51.56) and senior Savannah Rubocki (1:53.03). Her best 500 free time also would have been third on the Redbird roster, behind sophomore Morgan Rosser (5:023.23) and freshman Julia Oostman (5:03.27). Her top times in the 50 free and 100 free would not have ranked among Illinois State’s Top 5 in 2018-19.
The Redbirds are under new leadership, welcoming Caitlin Hamilton as head coach in May.
