Winn Aung Re-Breaks 50 Free NAG Record with 11th Birthday Looming

Winn Aung of the Redding Aqua Ducks ages up very, very soon, but he had the time to sneak in just one more National Age Group Record before his 11th birthday, re-breaking his own mark in the 50 meter freestyle.

Aung will swim one more meet next weekend, in Ukiah, California, to take a final shot at some yards records as well.

Aung’s swim came at the Sierra Nevada Junior Olympic Championships, hosted by his own team, and he swam a 27.42 to win. His old record of 27.57 was set one month ago in the same pool (Aung has swum very well in his home course). Prior to that, Kris Humphries had the record at 27.71.

He is now the holder of the 50, 100 (1:00.67), and 200 (2:11.32) National Records.

His coach, Mike Hoppe, called the meet a “grueling” affair, pointing out that with an outdoor pool, the temperature was above 100 degrees on all four days.

He also swam a 1:10.56 in the 100 fly, a 1:01.67 in the 100 free, a 2:13.98 in the 200 free, a 30.90 in prelims of the 50 fly, and a 2:37.67 in the 200 IM: all of which were Meet Records.

His older brother Alex won the 11-12 boys’ 50 freestyle just two heats before Winn’s record-breaking swim in 27.88.
