As the fallout from College Park continues, Western Kentucky is the latest team to sign a former Maryland Terrapin as they’ve added a transfer from the Terps’ top breaststroker from last season, junior Amy Halligan.
Halligan is a true-blood Terrapin (he dad went to Maryland, and her twin sister also went there before transferring to Towson), but Western Kentucky was one of her top considerations coming out of high school. She was 4th at last year’s ACC Championships in the 100 breast with a 1:01.74; that’s a huge drop even from her freshman year, where her best was two seconds slower. She also has a 2:15.81 in the 200 breaststroke.
She will become the Hilltoppers’ top breaststroker next season, and will contend for Sun Belt Conference titles (her 100 would’ve put her 2nd at last year’s meet). Western Kentucky does have a great young breaststroke group as it is – 4 out of their top 5 breaststrokers last season were freshmen, including Claire Conlon – but Halligan’s addition should push that group to a new level.
I’m her twin sister. I don’t go to Maryland anymore! I transferred.
