LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee University women’s swimming team sent their seniors out with a win as they dominated Virginia Military Instutite, 203-52, on Saturday afternoon at the W&L Natatorium.
The team celebrated their nine seniors who have captured three Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) championships during their time in Lexington. They look to secure their fourth straight title at the ODAC Championships on Feb. 12-15.
HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
- Vivian Pickeral, Clara Attar, Bella Tarbet, and Myla Rice opened the meet with a strong performance in the 200 medley relay. The squad clocked a winning time of 1:48.93 to secure first place in the event.
- Junior Maria Jellig led the individual efforts for the Blue and White, earning three wins. Jellig swept the backstroke events, finishing first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.12 and winning the 200 backstroke in 2:07.25. She capped off her day with a victory in the 200 individual medley, posting a time of 2:11.72.
- Senior Bella Tarbet and junior Clara Attar both delivered two individual wins for the Generals. Tarbet triumphed in the butterfly events, winning the 100 butterfly in 58.23 seconds and the 200 butterfly in 2:09.41. Attar swept the breaststroke events, finishing first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.51 and claiming victory in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:27.37.
- First-year Celia Bredehoeft and sophomore Katelyn Crawford dominated the distance freestyle events. Bredehoeft won the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:19.40, while Crawford secured first place in the 1000 freestyle, finishing in 11:07.31.
- Junior Schuyler Ross earned a win in the 200 freestyle, clocking a time of 2:00.32. First-year Tenra Adams secured the final individual victory of the day, winning the 100 freestyle in 54.25 seconds.
- To cap off the meet, Tarbet, Grace Bentley, Faith Sconing, and Adams delivered a standout performance in the 400 freestyle relay. The quartet clocked a winning time of 3:40.97, sealing a dominant Senior Day victory for the Blue and White.

- The Blue and White will take a few weeks off before looking to claim their 34th Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championship. The four day meet will kick off on Feb. 12 and will conclude on Feb. 15.
LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee University men’s swimming team dropped their final dual meet of the season, falling to Virginia Military Institute 140-122 on Saturday afternoon.
The team celebrated their 12 senior members prior to the dual meet. This senior class has claimed three Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championships during their time in Lexington and look to win their fourth straight on Feb. 12-15.
HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
- Charles Byars, Harrison Cerone, Matt Fritz, and Leighton Chapman opened the dual meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay. The squad clocked a winning time of 1:33.09 to secure first place.
- Junior Dalton Jobe led the way for the Blue and White, earning two individual wins. Jobe claimed first place in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:40.77 and later dominated the 500 freestyle, finishing in 4:42.26.
- Junior Harrison Cerone earned a victory in the 100 backstroke, clocking a winning time of 57.64 seconds. Junior Jackson Hall followed up with a win in the 200 backstroke, posting a time of 1:59.35. Junior Thomas Denton secured the final individual win of the afternoon in the 200 individual medley, finishing with a time of 1:58.39.
- To close out the meet, Chapman, Luke Nagel, Byars, and Jobe teamed up in the 400 freestyle relay. The quartet delivered an impressive performance, clocking a winning time of 3:04.23 to claim first place in the event.

LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI Women’s Swimming & Diving dropped its final dual of the season against Washington & Lee on Saturday at the W&L Natatorium.
The Keydets finish the season with a pair of big victories to match the program high. VMI secured one first-place mark, seven podium finishes, and one record-breaking feat against W&L.
Earning the lone victory was freshman Mackenzie Byrne who swam a stellar 24.67 in the 50 freestyle. Byrne followed up with second place in the 100 butterfly with a 59.77 mark.
The 400 freestyle relay team consisting of Byrne, Emerson Cosner, Ava Phillips, and Kimiya Sabahi-Miab broke the Rat record that has stood standing since 2022 with a time of 3:49.10.
Freshman Emerson Cosner scored second in the 1,000 freestyle with an 11:32.22 mark before junior Noelle Tong nabbed second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:02.12. Sophomore Walden Wilder and freshman Parker Belle Fogle went two-three in the 200 breaststroke with both times under 2:40.

The Keydets return to the pool February 7-9 for the Virginia Tech Invitational in Blacksburg, Virginia. After the invite, VMI will have the 2025 America East Championships at Goodall Pool in the VMI Aquatic Center from February 18 through February 22.

LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI Men’s Swimming & Diving earned its fifth win of the 2024-25 campaign after toppling neighboring rival, Washington & Lee, on Saturday at the W&L Natatorium.
The Keydets had a narrow finish with the Generals, 140-122, moving their record to 5-3 overall. With the win, VMI has the most wins in a season since 2018-19 when the Keydets nabbed six victories.
VMI recorded their first victory of the day in the 1,000 freestyle as freshman Stephen Russell scored first place with a time of 10:06.47. Senior Ethan Griffith tallied first in the 200 breaststroke in his final dual meet of his collegiate career with a mark of 2:07.84.
Sophomore Sam Castle earned VMI’s second win of the day in the 100 backstroke with a mark of 51.28 before going atop the podium again in the 200 backstroke in 1:55.27. Freshman Jack Mills nabbed first in both the 100 butterfly (50.37) and 200 butterfly (1:52.16). In the 100 freestyle, sophomore Matthew Picard won with a time of 46.32, narrowly defeating fellow Keydet Mills who finished in 46.50.
In total, VMI had seven winning marks with 23 top-three finishes between all 28 events.
